Red & White Scrimmage Game Thread
Click here to head on over the MyFoxDetroit.com's coverage of today's Red Wings Red & White Game to close out camp. Game starts at Noon Eastern.
As a reminder, the Red Squad features Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Holmstrom, Miller, Eaves, Ritola, Helm, Abdelkader, Lidstrom, Kronwall, and Osgood (among many others) while the White Squad has Franzen, Filppula, Bertuzzi, Modano, Hudler, Cleary, Stuart, Rafalski, Salei, Ericsson, and Howard (also among many others).
I'll be watching, but I'm still trying to come up with a way so I can listen to it (no speakers on this computer). Join me below for our own commeters' optional training camp skate through the season's first Game Thread.

Haha
I’m also running into the other problem that some might have with watching hockey in the middle of a weekday. I should have taken today off ;)

You rooting for Red or White?

Who's wearing 29?
He just had a good shift.

I was about to call it
That a RW prospect would be the one to score first, but Brendan beat me to the punch
I keep getting confused
because he’s saying Red Wings in with puck or somethign like that and then I realize he means the Wings in red
White
he looks good wearing that #90

It's fun to watch the switch back from the fourth line to the first
it’s like things slowly get less crisp and then the lines reset and it goes back to pretty.

Offense from the blueline
I’ve been researching the other teams, and I’ve found the better teams all get scoring from their defensemen. Lidstrom can’t have a slump to start the season like last year, and Kronwall needs to be more consistent.

I think if they're paired together...
…they’ll provide some good chemistry. They’re both great passes with good shots, it’s a matter of when not if for this year. But you’re absolutely right, we need some scoring out of the blueline.

Whoever #41 in white is, is working pretty hard
saw him work a stick lift in down near ozzie’s net and get a stuff attempt and then follow up on the forecheck.

Around here
We have theatres where you eat and can buy beer during the movie. The food is sandwiches/burgers/wings (finger food), and it’s reasonably priced. Wife and I can go for $50 w/drinks and movie included.

I couldn't watch because of work
but you guys did a stellar job of summing it up through a little over 120 comments.
Went to the Lightning version on Sunday..
And YES… I did catch a glimpse of ol’ Stevey, just for the last half of the scrimmage. He was up on a corner purch of the Brandon Ice Forum, probably used for birthday parties or something. I have to say the Bolts are looking damn good… watched a hour long full steam ahead practice, followed by a 40min. scrimmage & shoot-out of the same pace.Which if you watched any Lightning games last year, shoot-outs need to be worked on for sure! Looks like what they say about Coach Boucher and his style are true to form, so far. Many comparisons to Babcock and I’m pretty sure they’re buddies as well.
What took me by suprise was… since Stevey came to town their’s been alot of jibber jabber about him getting rid of all the beef and enforcers. Most likely in pusuit of a more Red Wing style system. However, I don’t know if pretty much standing right next to them had anything to do with it but their were some HUGE guys out there.. mainly a player named Mitch Fritz who is atleast 6’7"-6’8"ish.
Gagne seemed to still be getting used to not being surrounded by goons in orange. Spending most of the time on the ice talking to coaches and trainers rather than his new teammates. All in good time.. as I’m sure Modano is having some of the same thoughts.
Tried getting some pics of Yzerman but my digi camera sucks and they didn’t really come out. Would be.. “the guy in the blue fleece next to the lady is him” type thing.
Anyways… wish I would have known about today’s Wing scrimmage sooner. Had today off and everything too. Damn. Hope the boys in red (and white) looking good this year too. Can’t friggin’ wait for season to start… gonna be a doozy!!!!!!
