Jimmy Howard is a Father, Joey MacDonald is a Call-Up (also a father)
According to RedWingsFront's Chuck Pleiness, goaltender Jimmy Howard will miss tomorrow's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets for the best of reasons. Reports are that Jimmy's wife Rachel gave birth to the couple's first child (a boy) on Sunday.
As a result, the Red Wings' announced on their official Twitter feed this morning that Joey MacDonald has been called up from Grand Rapids to join the team. The Wings have the cap space to make this move and will not need to use an emergency exemption thanks to the unfilled roster spot left by Mike Commodore's IR status and Brendan Smith's return to Grand Rapids (done last week).
Congratulations to the Howard family on this happy occasion!
To Wings fans who are really curious to see how Conklin will rebound from giving up seven goals on Saturday: at least you didn't have to wait very long, right?
No official word yet on how long Jimmy will be away from the team, but I'm guessing he'll be back in net for Friday's game against the San Jose Sharks.

Dear Conk,
Please bounce back. The Wings cannot be the first team to lose to Columbus.

I just want to say
that I still have as much confidence in Conklin as I did before Saturday. I’m putting that game in the category of “oops” games where there was plenty of suckage to go around for everyone. I don’t put the loss on him and I don’t believe this is indicative of his his skill nor what we will see the rest of the year. Everyone has a bad game they just want to forget or throw away. No Conk hate from me.
Also, Congrats Jimmy and Rachel!
I’ll absolutely say that I hope you’re right. I’m just worried that an awful season last year in St. Louis was more than just having to play behind that awful team.
I can’t wait for tomorrow night though.

Also
If Jimmy Howard lets in a five-hole goal in the next two months, Rachel should get to kick him.

We already know he’s good with kids.
Or at least better with them than Jonathan Toews.

Per an article in the Free Press,
Jimmy and Rachel came up with a very original name for their new offspring — James Howard IV.
Prince Tiberius!

The kid will probably want to do something crazy and play forward or something.
(also, so as to not breed any confusion, I am not a junior… We also never called the dog Indiana)

Congrats to Jimmah
I wonder, when the baby came out, did Jimmah catch him or waffle board him to the corner?
I didn’t hear that Smith was sent back down. How many games of his suspension did he serve then, four?
He was sent down in time to play the game on the 18th against Hamilton (the first game he was eligible to play in). He will still have 2 NHL games’ worth of suspensions to serve.
So far in his four games back in Grand Rapids, he has 1 assist, six SOG, and 11 PIM
