Admirals Down Griffins 3-1

Admirals Down Griffins 3-1
Milwaukee Netminder stops two penalty shots...

Despite being outplayed for most of the game, this one is going to be long remembered as the one that got away. The Griffins led after one and had several opportunities to tie the game after falling behind including a pair of failed penalty shots, but just couldn't get it done. Gustav Nyquist scored his 5th of the season as the lone tally for GR, while Pearce deserved a better fate, taking the loss on a 24 save outing.

Nyquist ripped a shot from the slot that was in and out of the net before anyone reacted. Immediately following the goal there was a confab going on at the Admirals bench that looked to be an issue with the lineup card. After that was addressed with both benches, play continued. Tatar and Andersson had a great 2-on-1 while shorthanded, but Andersson ran out of room to get a good shot off. Pare and Tatar look like they are starting to heat up, wreaking havoc in the offensive zone. Shots on Goal: GR 7 - Mil 9.

Milwaukee struck early when Latta snuck a low shot just inside the post to tie the game at one. Ryan made it 2-1about a minute later, banging a loose rebound in the crease behind Pearce. Great individual effort by Conner to steal the puck for a great scoring chance before he was interfered with. He was awarded a penalty shot but didn't get much if a shot off. Exelby smoked Ryan along the boards and is looking mad. The Griffins powerplay has gone cold again with no shots in back to back man advantages. Exelby challenged Ford and came out much the worse for wear on that altercation. Shots on Goal: GR 6 - Mil 13.

Star-divide

Grand Rapids had some good pressure on a 4-on-3 when Smith lost his goal stick in the corner. An Admirals' player covered the puck in the crease, and another penalty shot was awarded to the Griffins. Tatar was sent out and made a nice move going side to side and then tried to go upstairs but Smith kept it out. Milwaukee capitalized on their own 4-on-3 powerplay a few minutes later, to raise the ante to 3-1 on a goal by Josi. Pearce was summoned to the bench with 35 seconds left for the extra attacker, but it was too little too late for another Griffins loss. Shots on goal: GR 13 - Mil 5. For the Game: GR 26 - Mil 27.

Observations:

Another embarrassing loss for this team. Things are starting to snowball as they digging a big hole that is going to be tough get out of and still have a hope of making the playoffs.

Coach Fraser really shortened the bench tonight. I don't know if the third and fourth lines had more than 2 or 3 shifts in each of the second and third periods. The same with the blueline as Fournier did not see the ice much tonight.

Tatar played well, and looks to be finding his game after a tough start.

Doug Janik was another player who stood out and had another good game.
