Around SBN: Shaq As Orlando Magic General Manager? Don't Bet On It

The hits just keep on coming. Word is that Todd Bertuzzi is out of Wednesday's game against the Canucks due to back pain. It will be the first game the Tuzz has missed in his second stint with the Wings. Per Khan(!), Datsyuk, Hudler and Franzen will all sit out for the game, but Osgood might be back. No word on what the Wings will do, since they have no salary cap space to call anyone up. Anyone know any forwards willing to play for free?

Can’t help but feel horrible for Malhotra. Dude’s eye is screwed as bad as Stevie’s was.

yeah agreed plus that is a huge loss for them in the long run

very underrated player

really hurts the Nucks at the "dot"

he’s like 60% on the year so far on faceoffs – really, really good…2nd in the league I think I read

by Kendal on Mar 22, 2011 1:27 PM CDT up reply actions

More than that, he scares other teams into changing who takes their faceoffs when the Canucks put him on the ice (i.e. instead of having Hudler take the faceoff and getting the puck to Datsyuk, Malhotra forces Datsyuk to take the drop). Malhotra is as good at faceoffs as Drapes was in his prime. One of the most underrated talents in the game, in my opinion.

by Apocalyptic0n3 on Mar 22, 2011 2:14 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah

I hope he doesn’t have permanent damage to his vision.

by Rat A Tat on Mar 22, 2011 1:39 PM CDT up reply actions

Agreed.

What does everyone think about the league making visors mandatory? Or, more likely, grandfathering them in like they did helmets.

by Apocalyptic0n3 on Mar 22, 2011 2:15 PM CDT up reply actions

Also they should make visors manditory finally...

so many dangerous injuries with so much going on at such a fast speed

…I really should read every comment before posting. That is the third time in two days I made a redundant comment by not reading. Damn.

by Apocalyptic0n3 on Mar 22, 2011 2:15 PM CDT up reply actions

I dont think that this would ever happen

personally, if I was an NHL player, I wouldn’t want it to happen.. visors are good for those who want them but for those who don’t, it can really effect your play.. sight isn’t the same and not as natural.. it would mess with a lot of players’ games.

by kylegroombridge on Mar 22, 2011 5:12 PM CDT up reply actions

Counterpoint

However, no matter how the player comes up (juniors or college) they are wearing a full face cage up until they get signed and go to the minor league affiliate.

So, if they’ve managed to show NHL talent while wearing a full face cage, a simple visor isn’t going to hinder them.

Is it required in Europe?

by Apocalyptic0n3 on Mar 23, 2011 7:57 AM CDT up reply actions

Do not want

This is going to put too much strain on the guys we have to double shift. I hope we don’t have any MORE injuries because of that. Even even above-average levels of wear and tear isn’t good this time of year..

by RedPandaAlex on Mar 22, 2011 1:27 PM CDT reply actions

Sooo, we going with 10 forwards and 8 defensemen? Can we make it 10 and 7, and throw a 2nd goalie out there for the 18th man?

by Rat A Tat on Mar 22, 2011 1:39 PM CDT reply actions

looks like Daniel Sedin will be playing wife gave birth last night

and they may get Bieska back tomorrow as well…can we get somebody back? lol

Well now we’re missing Samuelsson too. Apparently no one wants to play their old team this game? If Daniel’s still not here either it’s going to be a very, ahem, interesting game for both teams

Just like last night

Although word is that Daniel is going to play since his wife had the baby earlier today.

Truthfully, I’m just hoping no one from the Wings gets injured tomorrow night. That would be a small victory in of itself.

by Amerinadian on Mar 22, 2011 2:44 PM CDT up reply actions

That's pretty much

My wish for the Canucks for the rest of the season too

yep lets just get to the playoffs

as a healthy 2 seed…even if we did fall to 3 which I kind of hope we don’t but as long as we are ready for the playoffs I don’t care

Because of how close the blackhawks

are they want everyone to heal up now so they are ready to put them down and then go into the playoffs with everyone healthy. So everyone who needs a rest is getting it now instead of the last week of the season. It really sucks becausse i’m going to this game and won’t set to see them play.

by Darthferrer on Mar 22, 2011 2:49 PM CDT reply actions

Not worried

Because we will win tomorrow behind Jimmy’s ‘stellar’ goaltending. Yes I guarantee it!!

by bharatwaj5 on Mar 22, 2011 3:58 PM CDT reply actions

Mursak called up - MacDonald sent down

Not a guarantee that’ Ozzie’s groin is good to go, by any means, just that having a backup with a wonky groin (heh) is likely preferable to the remaining ten forwards having to play 30 minutes against a tough Canucks squad.

The hope is that Howard doesn't shit the bed again

He might have to play even iIf it’s 8-1 after 12 minutes (judging by the injuries, not entirely unlikely),

Back off man, I'm a scientist

BITCH

We better be healthy come playoffs, and Jimmy really needs to find his A-game, especially with Vezina-Mac sitting in Grand Rapids.
