Video of the Day: Joe Louis Arena Rocks
There's been a lot of talk today about Joe Louis Arena and what its fate will be should the Red Wings build a new arena. So it seemed only fitting that today's video showcases what the Joe means to Wing fans. This is a video taken at the end of Game 6 of the 2008 Finals against the Penguins. I was in my living room going absolutely crazy celebrating yet another Stanley Cup, and can only imagine what it must have been like to experience that with thousands of other fans. I like this video because I lose myself in the euphoria of the crowd.
I've only been to the Joe for a Wing game twice in my life, but I know a lot of you have a ton of memories. So share with us; name your single favourite memory of the Joe, with bonus points being awarded to non-Stanley Cup winning experiences, because those just make the rest of us jealous. Bonus question: name a time when you desperately wanted to be at the Joe. For me, that would have been to celebrate Stevie's solo victory lap with the Cup in 1997. I would have loved to have been there for the entire celebration, but that lap was about Yzerman and the fans, and shedding years of disappointment and failures together.

Favorite memory
Since the H2H2 was the first game I actually got to see at the Joe, I have to say that my favorite memory is the bear hug with The Triple Deke that almost ended in both of us falling down the stairs.

I am somewhere in that video...
About 8 of us all went down to JoeVision for game 6 that year…I don’t think i have ever done that many high fives in one night in my life. It was a total party that night in the arena…and we were the first fans that got a shot at Stanley Cup merchandise which was a nice added bonus…
Went to a game in february for my birthday
This was 2008-2009 when Hossa was on the team. The wings beat the predators 6-2. The highlight of the night though was when Hossa dropped the mitts (in the middle of the 2nd period i believe, gotta check the highlights.) I swear the joe went crazier for that minute than it had for all 6 goals combined.

for some reason the link isnt working, so you have to copy and paste it.
My fave live moment
Lidstrom OT winner to beat Gretzky’s Coyote’s a couple years ago @ the Joe.
or
Drew Miller’s Superman goal vs Tampa.
Both were awesome to see live for obvious different reasons.
My favorite was being able to go with my Dad to see the number of the greatest goalie to ever play the game raised to the rafters.
Dancing Datsyuk Decidedly Dazzles Dainty Defensemen
2 Favourite moments
At the Joe was the H2H2 game after OT when Jeff turned to me (thankfully with underwear no longer on his head) and we had a group hug with Casey.
My non-Joe favourite memory was pre-lockout in Chicago. The Wings were down 3-1 heading into the third and tied up the game with 2 late goals (including with less than a minute left) before they won in OT. I left the game shouting many things about the Wings that got me a lot of very nasty looks from both the Hawks fans and my wife, who was worried about our tires being slashed.
Hahahaha
That’s awesome.
I can’t stand Hawks fans….
We’ve had a few interesting times outside the arena in St. Louis too (it keeps changing it’s name…), such that we were slightly worried for our safety (mostly just drunks getting in each others faces).
I was at that game in Chicago
My dad an I were literally standing in the exit about to leave when the Wings scored the first of the comeback goals. We were like “Ok, I guess we better sit back down”. The ending was pure awesome. The disappointment and hatred from the Hawks fans was actually palpable.
This was the last game I was at in Chicago, and the last game I went to before moving to Florida. Now I get my jollies with 10,000 other Wing’s fans in Tampa.

I guess I got pretty lucky.
For only having been to maybe 10 games my entire life. One of them was Game5 against the Hawks in 95. It was all I wanted for my 13th birthday so my dad took me. I just remember jumping up and down on my seat, screaming at the top of my lungs, and high fiving every stranger I saw when Kozy lit the lamp in OT. To bad the Devils prison raped us next round or that goal would have been way more monumental.
If I could have been at any other game I think it would have been March 26, 1997. A cup clinching game would have been great, but sweet baby Jesus that was alot of dramatics. Most epic Wings game ever, how could I pass that up.
This final absolutely blew chunks for me
We were traveling across country and staying at my wife’s aunt and uncle’s house. I was able to watch the game, but the uncle had to be up at 0 dark thirty and I was basically threatened to not disturb him when Detroit won. (He’s an Av fan…so take it for what it’s worth) BUT dude is an ex Green Beret…so…I obeyed.
Don't Panic!
JLA moment - in a Suite
I’ve been to the Joe a few times in my lifetime. So, this is a bit of a strange one – it goes back to the Dead Wings era – yes, when the Wings were giving away a brand new car in between the 2nd & 3rd periods to get some butts in the seats for the games. I don’t remember the year, but the Joe wasn’t old, the Wings were terrible and we had tickets in a suite to watch the Wings. I’m not even sure whose suite it was, but we were there. Great view – but in the rafters, still it was my first time in a suite to watch a game.
The Wings were playing the Rangers that day, they trailed 3-2 (IIRC) with @ 1:30 to go, so we pulled the goalie (don’t ask me who it was), and there he was – Brad Park – playing defense for the Wings, and he scores with a shot from the blueline with @ :45 to go to tie the game 3-3 and that’s how it ended. I don’t think Park played with the Wings past that season, but as bad as we were, and playing against his former team, there is the old man – who scored 2 that day and the Wings manage a tie after they had been outplayed for most of the last half of the game.
They had clearly brought in Park as a former All-Star to mentor the kids and hopefully add a bit of sparkle to a bad team (read – sell some tickets), and he had a brief moment of glory against his former team, and was the First Star that afternoon too. Nice moment for Park, nice 1 point in the standings for the Wings and a nice moment for the fans that day.
The tie truly meant nothing, but my first time in a suite and somehow the Wings pulled even to salvage a point.

I've been to several games at the Joe, and several not at the Joe.
I happen to currently live in California, which doesn’t make it easy to get to Red Wings games, but I have few that I’ve been to at the Joe from when I was a kid, and when I was back visiting family.
My favorite game at the Joe was my first Red Wings game. I was all of 11 at the time, and my dad took me to the game, and I was beyond excited. Little did I know it would turn out to be probably my favorite game of all-time. Date was March 26, 1997. Yup, that game! I don’t think I need to go over the details since we all know what happened, but I know that I left that game with the biggest smile on my face.
My favorite game not at the Joe would be last year, game 5 against the Sharks. My brother lives in San Jose, and we are both die-hard Red Wings fans, so I went up to visit since he got tickets. We were both rocking our jersey’s of course, and got nothing but crap from everyone obviously. They are up 2-0 and loving every second of it. Then Kronwall scored. Then Kronwall absolutely wrecked Clowe. I knew then that we were gonna win that game.
I’ve been to a bunch of other good ones: Opener in 2009 when they raised the banner, 3-OT game which we lost to the Ducks in the 09 playoffs I believe, game 4 in Anaheim where we won that same year, game against the Kings in LA when we were up 3-0 and lost 4-3 in OT (hated that one obviously) this past year, and I drove over to Phoenix to watch the 6-1 game 7 beating we put on them.
