Around SBN: What If This Is It For The Celtics? End Of An Era Looming

Dimitry Chesnokov recently got to sit down with Pavel Datsyuk as he was in Russia after finishing his hockey school and heading to an awards banquet in Moscow to receive his Kharlamov Trophy for best Russian player in the NHL.

Chesnokov always provides the best stuff on Datsyuk and this doesn't disappoint. Head over to give it a read.

Awesome

It’s weird to see him so articulate knowing that it was in Russian because his English is always so broken. I know that he’s a well-spoken guy, but it’s nice to see that come through in an interview.

My favourite part:

And to wrap it up, tell us one of the best jokes you have heard lately.

“Turn off the voice recorder, and I will tell you.”

And I did.

I love these interviews :)

- Didn’t like that Datsyuk thought TPH/Homer retiring :(

- Love that Fedor signed a pair of gloves for him though!

(damnit JJ – you posted it just a minute before i did :-P)

Deleted the duplicate, but saved the wording you put on it
Always insightful information from a candid Datsyuk interview. Some interesting things he notes – that Detroit is where he works – not so much his home. That he thinks TPH and Homer will retire next year – good read

Love Dats interviews...

Agree with JJ and Igorzba….also

English does seem to polished…think it;‘s Dmitry’s translation as pretty sure they prolly spoke Russian during interview…made it harder to think in Dats voice as I was reading tho.

Detroit is like a red drape for most teams and every team wants to beat us. And we have to thank them for it because this is how they make us better. We try to win every game and this competition makes us stronger

Of all the individual trophies you have not won, which one would you most like to win?
“I have so many of them that I haven’t won. I think I would most like to win a trophy to the best goaltending duo.”

And who would be the second one in your duo?
“Ilya Bryzgalov, of course! We’d figure out who’s the number one and who’s the number two… But I think the Art Ross Trophy is a very important one to win, the one I would like to win.”

I love Datsyuk

So good.

Clearly Breezy would be the #1 as he is the BEST…. (I think he did finally concede that Dats was #1, but he still had himself as 2 and 3 on his little list)

HAHAHA I love Dats!!!

Wow! He has a daughter!

I didn’t even know he had a girlfriend/wife. He really doesn’t reveal much about his private life.

Private Life

Well, he does trust his eyes to Dr. Rahmani – that much we do know…

Is this something to worry about?
“Not yet. It lets me know it’s still there. When I had my hockey camp for kids and I started shooting the puck, I could feel that my wrist wasn’t there for me. I hope to get in better in the next two weeks while on vacation. Maybe I will apply some heat to it by laying on the beach. This will give me some time to see if my wrist is ready.”

Or is it just regular?

"Goaltending is a normal job, sure. How would you like it in your job if every time you made a small mistake, a red light went on over your desk and 15,000 people stood up and yelled at you."

I liked this......

“Well, the advantage on this chess board is on the owners’ side and not ours, in my opinion. We have to use all of our aces.”

A game of chess against Datsyuk sounds interesting. The only guy you could play with and lose your queen because he had a full house.
