Sharks and Jets - really it's West Side Story!

I figured we may as well start this now, and either give the Editors some new ideas or (as a result of what we all hate) make them stay away from drawing some of the parallels during the season...

For those of you too young to know, and who's parents never made you sit down with them and watch West Side Story when it was on TV....it's a Leonard Bernstein musical adaptation of Romeo and Juliet set in NYC with two rival gangs (that's a bit of a stretch really), so I'll call them two rival groups of young houligans in the 50s/60s. Of course, there is a love interest between the second in command guy from the Jets and the sister of the top dude from the Sharks. The movie (I'm not sure about the Broadway show since I wasn't privileged enough to have ever seen it on Broadway) starred Natalie Wood, Rita Moreno, Richard Beymer and numerous others that even I don't recognize the names of.

Unlike Joe Thornton who is still trying to per-fect his diving - the movie won 10 Oscars.

So after the jump - who are the equivalents on today's Sharks and Jets to those in the movie?

The Sharks are the Puerto Ricans and the Jets are the hometown NYC guys trying to protect their turf, so this only really works when San Jose goes up to Winnipeg... You'll note that there are more girls on the Sharks, but that fits now doesn't it?

First, we have Officer Krupke - probably Ondrej Pavelec from the Jets, after all he does try to restore order. Then again, it might be Todd McClellan...

The Sharks:

Maria (Bernardo's sister) - got to be Joe Thornton. After all, he falls in love with a guy from the other team!

Bernardo - the leader, Dan Boyle

Anita (Bernado's wife) - Joe Pavelski I would say Marleau, but there is no way, he's too much of a sissy and Anita is fiery.

Chino - he kills Tony, so this has got to be Douglas Murray

Pepe - Logan Couture

Indio - Ryane Clowe

Juano - Patrick Marleau

Loco - Anti Niemi

Roco - Jason Demers

Consuelo - Marty Havlat

Rosalia - Colin White
