New Red Wings fan here
Hello there Wings fans!! I'm a new convert to the Red Wings fan from the former Thrashers/newly minted Jets franchise. I hope to enjoy my stay here during the regular season and hopefully a long run in the playoffs. I also hope the former owners of the Thrashers and Hawks are all banned by federal and state authorities from stepping foot in the state of Georgia. The reasons why I changed franchises after the jump. JUMP!!
Reasons:
1. The way the Jets ownership group jumped ship and sold out at the speed that they did.
2. The long court battle between owners after the Atlanta Hawks decided to go after Joe Johnson pissed me off
3. Dany Heatley murdering his own teammate
4. The constant bungling of the front office and subsequent handling of coaches (i.e firing a well known name around here, Bob Hartley)
5. Also the owners rapidly sold out on their ownership of the NBA's Hawks mere weeks after selling out the Thrashers.
6. What a stable ownership + team situation it is in Detroit. The Illitch family seems to care about winning but isn't that hands on, leaving the hockey stuff to the hockey people. I respect their handling of the Tigers and Wings.
7. I always loved seeing the Wings and Avs battle it out during the late 90s and early 2000s.

Let me be among the first to welcome you
This is a great place for Wings fans to congregate, exchange stories, celebrate victories and commiserate after losses. It is also a great group to share times of sorrow with also, as in the recent plane crash in Russia. I know it helped me get through that tragedy a little easier.
We may not always totally agree with each other, but we all respect each others opinions. Don’t be shy about posting your thoughts; it took me a while before I started posting on a semi-regular basis. One place you generally won’t see me posting is on the game threads. The only reason for that is I don’t know that I could type an even half-way coherent sentence while actually watching and paying attention to the game.
Sorry for going on so long, but it’s nice to see a new face.
Welcome!
As Zfan16 so eloquently stated, this is indeed a great place to read, post, discuss and converse. No matter what your level of hockey knowledge and fandom, you’ll find this is a great group of people who love hockey, and love the Wings. Questions, comments and discussions are always welcome, and encouraged. Welcome to the Red Wings family!
Welcome
Thanks for stopping by and we look forward to many game threads with ya. I can understand why you jumped ship. Everyone has their breaking point.

Welcome
Fair warning though: once you give your heart to the boys in the winged wheel you’ll never get it back. It might even consume your life.
If you’re OK with that, then you will be fine. Win or lose, we love our boys and love each other as well. I look forward to some insight from a convert (I’ve never met one before…ooooh you’re shiny!).
You're wrong Mick. That blob may have peanuts, but it ain't no Baby Ruth.
i sympathize
as a fan, i wanted the Thrashers to do well just to spite Kovalchuk, but the Devils’ terrible season was retribution enough for me.
that said, welcome! we all just want to talk hockey here, and even if it gets a little heated, we all are fans of the same team and just want them to hoist that silver chalice in June. a few things won’t be tolerated (i sound like a mod even though i’m not), but use the good sense that we all know you have (after all, you DID decide to become a Red Wings fan), and i’m sure you’ll enjoy coming to this site however often you do.
You wanna tell me that to mah face?!
YET ANOTHER Detroit Red Wings blog.
Howdy
We need to have you baptized, which is done with the sweat of Nicklas Lidstrom over a replica Stanley Cup.
Just kidding: Lidstrom doesn’t sweat. Those beads of perspiration you see the tears of his opponents as they realize that they have no chance of besting him.

We must warn you
Once you’re baptized and become a fully functional Red Wings fan, you will never leave. You will never return to the Dark Side, in some ways it’s the Hotel California – you can check out anytime you want, but you will never leave.
So, welcome to:
An Original Six franchise with 80+ years of history behind it
The best run franchise in professional sports
A team and an organization that values winning but also rewards loyalty
A class organization in a blue collar city that will do nothing but support the Wings wherever they go at all times
11 Stanley Cups
20 straight playoff appearances
6 times in the SC finals since 1995/96
There are thousands of other reasons and accomplishments that we all could list for you – but that would be bragging so I won’t (because we always stay classy here at WIIM).
Now – the first order of business after Graham presides over your baptism – you must learn the chant:
Let’s Go Red Wings! (clap, clap, pause, clap, clap, clap)
Now young Jedi – go forth and teach all ye nations!
Thanks everyone for all the warm welcomes
when’s my wings baptism?
