Breaking Story: Dmitry Chesnokov Reports Terrible Plane Accident in Russia
Per Chesnokov's Twitter:
"A terrible tragedy in Russia. A charter plane carrying KHL's Lokomotiv crashed. Only one person survived!"
"According to @plysenkov the plane crashed at takeoff. There were 37 people on board. Condolences to the #KHL and Lokomotiv."
"The number of those perished is still being confirmed. Lokomotiv was on board. Its roster includes Vasyunov, Demitra, Salei, Skrastins..."
"I will stay on top of the story and will provide details as they come in... #KHL #Lokomotiv"
Follow him here @dchesnokov
UPDATE: I've read "official" reports on Twitter confirming completely contradictory things about whether Salei was actually on this flight. We are still trying to figure out what the truth is (since confirmed via various sources that he was)
Truly a sad day for hockey.

Also, as reminded by @Stoosh10 on Twitter
Lokomotiv’s head coach is listed as former NHLer Brad McCrimmon.

We drafted Liv 102nd overall in 2000. He played 37 games for the Griffins and 3 for the Toledo Storm but that is the complete extent of his North American play. He’s played in Sweden and Russia for the rest of his career.

Wow
Lokomotiv officials have confirmed that entire team was on plane. Still waiting for official totals, some have as many as three surviving. Either way, it does not look good for McCrimmon, Salei, and Demitra.
Dmitry Chesnokov appears to have confirmed this report with Lokomotiv officials. They were flying in for the first game of the season. Crash happened just 2 kilometers from the runway.
Only ongoing KHL game, the grudge match between last season’s champ and runner up, was stopped and postponed in light of the accident. Sounds as if all other games are being put on hold until further notice now

Oh my God
This is awful. Every team’s worst nightmare. My condolences to those who will be affected by this tragedy.
This has truly been the worst off-season off-ice for hockey fans everywhere.

Sounds like Salei and McCrimmon have both been confirmed dead. Just got an email from a friend saying all Wings activities are being called off for the day (take that with a grain of salt, he’s been wrong before)

Appears he was wrong about the activities being cancelled. Last time I listen to him (he’s a brother of one of the trainers)

OMG...
This is so awful. Prayers for them and their families.
Terrible
This is devastating news.
This has easily been the worst hockey offseason ever. One can only hope that this is finally the end of the tragedy.
This offseason needs to end now
start training camps already…..don’t know what it is but i feel as soon as hockey starts these terrible things will stop……Prayers to all people close to them.

One player is being reported as having survived the crash. Alexander Galimov is reportedly in serious condition with fractures and burns.
Man this is a tragic day i really feel for Ruslan Salei’s wife and newborn kid . The kid will never get to have any memory of his / her dad . And don’t get me wrong i feel bad for all that got killed .
I know how a accident when a loved one gets killed you just can’t wrap your mind around it at first. Listen folks if you have a loved one you are meaning to call do it asap. Last Jun 25 at 2.25PM my mother was killed in a car crash at noon the same day i thought to call her just to say hello but put it off thinking i would call her later that night . I still feel really bad because i missed my last chance to tell her i loved her . Sorry if i went a bit off topic
Show me the CUP
So sorry for your loss

Update
Per a Russian contributor to Bolts Prospects, a list of passengers and crew members has been published.
http://www.boltprospects.com/forum/showpost.php?p=113942&postcount=7
Salei’s name is on the list.
The most important thing to remember in all of this is that nothing has been confirmed one way or the other. Let’s just wait and see what news comes out before we jump to conclusions.
Since Salei has been confirmed as alive and in Minsk, I’m not too confident with that list. Of course… Lokomotiv officials also said that the entire team was on the flight.

And NOT on the actual plane. Per NHL.com
How much more can hockey take this summer? I’m afraid to ask. Another terribly sad day indeed.

There’s been far too much speculation at this point. Until there’s a report that he was either on or not on the plane, I’m going to hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

I am still trying to wrap my head around all of this
It has really been tough trying to concentrate on work after reading about this awful tragedy. How terrible for all the families involved. This off-season has been terrible for hockey with all of the tragedies. How much more can happen?
I'm with you.
My brain and my heart cannot fathom this sort of thing. The families left without fathers, sons, brothers, etc. The sudden ripping away of lives. It gives an empty feeling, like the wind has been knocked out of me.

I still can't get over it...
An entire team perished. Gone. All of these guys, in great shape, probably laughing, joking with each other, looking forward to playing the game they loved. It’s just too depressing.

Rusty's wiki page..
Now has him listed as deceased. Not a good sign. Man, I hope he wasn’t on the plane. Maybe the one bit of good news to come out of this.

but sadly thinking that he would have popped up somewher by now since crash was over 4 hours ago…but until confirmed hope is alive. //praying

My skepticism is itching
If Salei is fine, surely he’s heard of what has happened and he would have contacted the proper officials with the team, who would then release the official word on him being alive.
I hate Jonathon Ericsson.
Hard to say
Being that he was one of the first to report that Salei WAS on the plane. Like a horrible, sad, demented version of the Jagr Watch.
Rusty where are you???

I'm holding on to a thread of hope for Rusty.
Damn this entire situation!!! I don’t even know how to express my frustration and sorrow except on here with all of you.
This is absolutely terrible news.
The tragedy itself is terrible…but hearing about deaths to Salei and McCrimmon puts it on a whole different level, hitting way too close to home. I definitely broke down for a second when I saw that. I always had faith in Salei as the #6 veteran guy last year. McCrimmon put 3 solid years of coaching in the organization, and his death is no easier to take. Add to the list very familiar other NHL names Pavol Demitra and Josef vasicek…along with the rest of the team…I am in shock. This is absolutely terrible news. It’s always stories like these that put sports in perspective.
Dinamo Minsk GM is confirming that Salei was not in Belarus as originally hoped. He was on the plane.
I'm still in shock :-/
Prayers and condolences for friends and family of everyone involved.
