Here let me explain it: you're trying to be two fancy and not getting enough traffic in front of the net and not enough pucks on net. Do that. Get dirty and out freaking work the other team when you have a man advantage. There ya go. Problem solved.

Quine’s quickness shines in Peterborough | Red Wings Central
The Red Wings third round pick from last year's draft is stepping up his scoring big time in the OHL. I must say, between Alan Quine, Tomas Jurco, Marek Tvrdon, and Xavier Ouellet on the blue line, the Wings had a real solid draft. Of course, we won't know for sure until a few years from now, but the potential is there. If two of those guys develop into to top players, it's s huge success.

Shawn Thornton bests just about everyone | ProHockeyTalk
Everyone in Boston thinks that everyone else in the league loves them and hates the Canucks. Is this really how everyone feels? I get the sense that everyone just wants both teams to shut up. I briefly talked about this on the the podcast (download here!) and am curious what the feeling is among everyone else. Seems like both teams are pretty hated to me.

The Bruins can fall into a fiery pit
but fuck* the Canucks all the same.

Terrible Ty
When you give up 5 goals, your first skapegoat is the goalie, Ty Conklin. I think Joey Mac needs to get an opportunity to compete for the second goalie spot in Motown. Ty is just not cutting it, and for all those Ty supporters stating he isn’t getting enough playing time to stay on the top of his game, keep this in mind: Backup Goalies are supposed to have the “relief pitcher mentality” and be able to perform with limited warning. 5 goals against a team like the Blackhawks is unexcusable. 5 goals against the Islanders is embarrassing and should be grounds for reassignment to the Griffins…

16 saves in the first period
Look at the goals he gave up:
Cross-ice pass that bounces in off a skate while the Wings were shorthanded
Wicked wrist shot top corner that was just a great shot.
Converting an odd-man rush after a terrible line change.
A breakaway from last year’s ROY
A tip-in.
I’m not the world’s biggest Conklin supporter either, but to pin last night’s loss on him is misguided. The team in front of him played like utter garbage, and after keeping the Wings in the game during the first period, it was inevitable that the Isles were going to start scoring on their chances.
Let me ask you a follow up question: do you really believe that Joey MacDonald would have won the game for the Wings last night, all other things being equal?
he wasn't ROTY
But he should’ve been. ;-)

Damn
I guess I was thinking he should have been as well.
I do remember he was the fastest skater in the Skills Competition.
Yep, I think he came in 3rd.
And yes, blew away the other fast skaters.
I believe he also finished somewhat high in the Selke voting too. As did Nielsen.

Watch the game.
Wasn’t Conklin’s fault at all. He had no shot at stopping any of the first 3. I quit watching after that but sounds like he was hung out to dry all night. Not to mention he was phenomenal in the first period. It could have been 5-0 after the first if Conklin hadn’t come up big.
The only thing that could possibly make the Ilya Bryzgalov experiment in Philly any funnier would have been for his successor to play just as well as he did.
And Mike Smith is playing better than he ever did, bar his Vezina year.
And so I laugh at Bryzgalov and the Flyers organization. Enjoy that 7 year deal sitting on the bench.
On that note: Enjoy that 15 year contract sitting on the bench as well, Garth Snow

Rumor is that DiPietro is considering retirement after this season.
I hope not, that would ruin a lot of hockey comedy.
No, it would add to it. He’d come off their cap. They’ll have even more trouble hitting the floor each season

doubtful
If they contnue to sign their young players (Nielsen, Parenetau and Montoya), they will have no problem reaching the floor without Glass. Then hopefully, we can be close to the playoffs and add some pieces. Or I’m dreaming.
Then we can laugh at the Kolvy and Erhoff contracts.

You honestly think they’re going to be able to sign all of them? I don’t. Not only are they the Islanders, who haven’t been relevant since Mike Bossy was scoring at a Lemieux/Gretzky pace, but they are also incredibly cheap. The Predators signing Rinne for what they did was astonishing, but nothing compared to what it would have been had it been the Islanders.

I hate the Canucks because they have 4-5 players who go completely over the top diving, embellishing and generally pretending to have been fouled or injured. It’s they guys that grab their face and writhe around on the ice when they haven’t been touched. This hatred is intensified by the fact that they have a very good power play. (I hate the Sharks for the same reason).
After watching some of the game on Saturday, it turns out that I hate the Bruins more than I hate the Canucks. I think its because the team is made up entirely out of jackasses.
I hate both these teams because their coaches and GMs are liars. Somebody should tell these guys that there are videos (usually from multiple angles) of the events they are ‘describing’ to the media and that these videos are available to the general public. I just don’t understand the need for creativity here – unless someone was trying to get the fans riled up and start a riot or something.
