I’m sure Lupul’s scoring tons of points for his fantasy owners, but that doesn’t mean a real GM can just plug him into a real team.

Apparently, he was going off of GVT calculations.

Which is still funny, because in the current GVT rankings (or current at the time he made the claim), Lupul was ranked 10th among NHL forwards in that category.

He may not be top 4-5 in the NHL

And I can’t really speak for whatever else he may or may not bring to the team. But at 9th in points, he’s certainly not in bad company on the stats sheet.

It's like saying Todd Bertuzzi was a top five player the years he was over a point-per-game

He’s feeding off of playing with Phil Kessel right now. You make him the premier offensive threat on a line (with Hudler and Filppula before this year, for example) and he’s not going to have these kind of numbers. If you’re prepared to give what it would take to get a true top five forward in the NHL for Lupul, god have mercy on your soul…
