Kuklas has the PHX feed of Pavel's shootout attempt
How does the announcer decide “Suck on that!!!!!!” is the best way to call that save?

Wow. I can't believe Nash said that.

I don't really have a problem with it
if you’re a color guy on a home broadcast. Jack Edwards and Eddie Olczyk take it to new levels by searching for things that aren’t there to cast their home team in a better light but that was obviously a sweet play. I am ok with it.

My issue isn't with him being a homer.
It was a PHX home broadcast and I have no problem with him being biased towards the Coyotes. Just like Mickey is biased towards the Wings. It’s the fact he said "Suck on that" is what bothers me. Sure he didn’t swear or anything like that, but there is a line there and he did go over it imo

What say you?
Murph said last night that the NHL is thinking about eliminating the spin-o-rama move. Sounds ridiculous to me.

90% of the time, the puck stops moving forward. I don’t think it should be outlawed, but I do think it should be automatically reviewed.

Got it.
That’s why I asked – I thought I must me missing something. I always defer to the experts here. It is fun to watch, though!
by InMDmissingtheD on Jan 20, 2012 9:58 AM CST up reply actions
I’m not sure I buy that as measure of whether a move was valid or not.
Because even if you bring the puck to a dead stop, if you keep moving forward (and on a spin-o-rama you do) it should still be valid.
The intent of the rule is to stop a skater from just coming to a stop 6 feet in front of the crease and stick handling for 30 seconds waiting for the goalie to slide out of the net.

Calling the Wings win in the shoot out cheap…when they have 6 loser points to the Wings 1. Hypocrisy much?
It's because their lack of skill
hurts them in the skills competition.
It’s nothing new.

They just need to grow the F up. We won… they have problems winning in the skills competition. That should tell you who’s more skilled right there.

Yeah, their big solution
Score hockey like soccer. In other words, we can’t always win, so we like ties / loser points.
If it was scored based on loser gets nothing, they’d be much further behind.

They are hilarious
Every single one of Brad Lee’s posts about the Blues involves taking a shot at the Wings. The fact that they can’t even enjoy their own team’s success without having to throw it in the faces of other fanbases is what makes them such inbred retards. He’s like the barbarian leader at the beginning of Gladiator, getting his dumb followers all riled up before the inevitable slaughter at the hands of the smarter Romans.
But he’s not trolling. No, he’s just pushing buttons. But if we were to do the same thing (not that we’d feel the need to stoop to that level), we’d be trolls. He likened it to us “peeking over the fence” at SLGT, which is fine except for the fact that they are having a drunken party and very loudly proclaiming their dislike of the Wings for all to hear.
Whatever. They might as well name it St Louis Inferiority Complex Central. It flashes like a beacon with every post and comment they make.
It does make for entertaining reading on a Friday afternoon, though.

Oh Boy
From SLGT:
Great news, if it goes anywhere. I’ll still miss Checketts though, and I think any Blues fan that underestimates his role in turning us around. When he took over, we were the worst franchise in the NHL, and I’d argue from a hockey decision perspective, we might be the best now.
It is a gold mine over there. Apparently 1/3 of a successful season makes your franchise “the best.”

Isn't that a fun little bait-and-switch routine they have?
Brad Lee seems to make any effort he can last night to practically beg WIIMers to come over to SLGT, then when you do, others harass you about why you came to the site.
There’s a learning curve associated with winning. For now, it looks like the Blues hockey team has figured it out. SLGT, however, hasn’t figured out that the reason they’re getting Wings traffic now is because their team is actually contending. SLGT, at times, seems like they would ban someone solely for being a Wings fan, without stepping out of line. I don’t get it. Discussion with rival fans is the best part of the SBNation sites.

Started reading more of the Score
Lund totally left Datsyuk off this list of players who aren’t better than Malkin. And actually doesn’t mention him at all. I was under the impression that when they have the “Who is the best Russian competition.” Pavs wins pretty much every time.
I'm a Homer
Pav has only one that once, I believe. Ovechkin won it like 3 times in a row before Pav did. Assuming you are referring to the Russian award for best Russian player, as voted on by all the Russian players.
I was referring to when they play on the ice. I think he has won that battle this year. So by that standard he is a better player.
Because if we go by what the Russian players say is best Russian player then Bryzgalov at 1,2, and 3

Let's face it
for most pundits, scoring more goals = being a better player. They aren’t too concerned about the defensive side of things (thus Karlsson is considered the #1 defenseman right now).
Manager of the Mursak League's Banzai Bananas. BANZAI!!!
Its disappointing that pundits only like to focus on goals. I would have liked Lund to at least mention Pavel in his article as one of the best players in the league, even if he still picked Malkin at the end. I think Pavs at least deserves to be mentioned with the best in the world.

Malkin is awesome
at picking up 4 or 5 points in games where Pittsburgh blows out the cellar-dwellers of the eastern conference.
Datsyuk, sometimes sees his powerplay time reduced in the 3rd period when the score is lopsided.
by nickname1234 on Jan 20, 2012 4:01 PM CST up reply actions
With all those goals he's scoring
shouldn’t he be better than +9?
Datsyuk is awesome and in my mind he is the best player out there right now. But if everyone else wants to pretend hes not thats their misfortune.
We have 4 guys on the wings that can skate within 5 feet of the goalie and rip a slapshot past him. I’ll take dangles and defensive skill any day of the week
Honestly
I don’t understand the jokes about Brett Lebda. He played here for a couple years, won a cup. Never bitched about his role or caused any problems. He was a third pairing defenseman if he was in the line up and for the most part did his job. The real joke is Brian Burke who signed him to that ridiculous contract but I don’t blame Lebda for signing it. I actually hope he catches on with another team.

Oh Boy! Notre Dame again!
What does this make, 3 prime time games and an hour special on the ‘history’ of the program? It works out well that the Wings have a horse in this race, but this stinks. It isn’t like college football where every team is TV, every single Saturday.
I understand why it is how it is, but it’s still obnoxious.

Trade Idea
I wonder if we could unload Ericsson with Columbus. He’s a small step up from Lebda and maybe we would get lucky with his Modified NTC.
In what universe
Would you expect Ericson to add Columbus to the list of teams he’s willing to be traded to?
by Big Z in Orlando on Jan 20, 2012 10:57 AM CST up reply actions
Most Modified NTCs give the player the ability to name 10 teams he would not play for. Like I said, we could get lucky

Hey man, I bet there are several players out there that forget Columbus exists when writing up their NTCs
“Let’s see. Don’t wanna go to Arizona…not sure I’d be there long anyhow. So, no Phoenix. Avalanche are awful, so no. Jets, yeah right… Carolina, no. Florida, good weather, crappy hockey….no. Montreal, well, I don’t speak French, so…no. Edmonton and Calgary, hmm…I like ice, but I don’t want to be encased in it..no to both. And let’s see what are the other crappy teams out there. Ah yeah, New Jersey. Don’t wanna go there. One more…let’s pick the worst of the bunch…hmmm…ah yeah, New York. Yep that will do it. 10 teams. I got the worst ones out of the way.”

And he just retired last year.
These 3 guys I haven’t seen in 15-25 years.

I doubt it will happen but the alumni game would be a great opportunity to mend fences with Sergei. I know he was kind of a weirdo and his time here often was turbulent, but the bottom line is we don’t win 3 Cups without him.
I’d also like to especially like to see Fetisov come back, as we didn’t part ways on the best of terms either, if I recall. And the rest of the Russian 5 too while we’re at it.
Needless to say Yzerman has to suit up too, if he can still skate. I don’t think the Lightning will mind. . .

They could have an alumni game against each other, just with former Wing stars/alumni. Gotta have everyone there. Grind line, Russian 5, Howes, The Captain, Ozzie, Chelios, etc. The list goes on and on and on.
Tough call on Coach, probably have to go with Scotty. With some type of tribute to our fallen players in the process, of course.

Bummer, No Look at Sheahan Tonight
Per NBCSports Pro Hockey Talk:
Having Red Wings prospect Riley Sheahan and undrafted senior Billy Maday give the Irish a fearsome foursome to watch offensively. Unfortunately the Irish will be without Sheahan tonight as he’s serving a suspension for delivering a head shot last weekend. -Joe Yerdon
Well, that sucks. Not only because I was looking forward to getting my first real look at him in action but that he’s out due to being suspended for a head shot. Haven’t seen video of it but that’s never good. On the bright side, should things should be a bit easier for the Wolverines. Who are unbeaten in their last 9 trips to South Bend. They will also have Devils prospect Jon Merril returning from a team imposed four game suspension.
Definitely like that with the the name switch (which I thought was dumb) NBCSC seems to be showing more hockey. Including recently these college games every Friday, with the clever name of “Friday Night Ice” hah. Shit, I’ll take it.

Merrill isn't returning from a 4 game suspension
Merrill was suspended for the entire first half of the season. He came back in January against LSSU and has played a total of 4 games, which is a shame because he’s Michigan’s best player, in my opinion anyway.
That's what I was going to say...
I don’t know the exact situation, but the kid did have a choice to serve the suspension and stay, or bolt for the pros. Good on him for staying.

Current streak has Detroit atop NHL heap
“the Blues, who are 9-2-2 in their past 13 games — with both losses coming against the Red Wings.”
