Reaching out to Winging It In Motown: Community research project
Greetings, Winging It In Motown.
I recently started a community research project on Die By the Blade. We got off to a good start but I thought reaching out to other fan-bases would only help. Please follow the jump for details.
What I'm looking for:
Goalies who have suffered a concussion.
What I have so far:
Ryan Miller
March 29, 2011. Source. Source.
November 12, 2011. Source.
Steve Mason
November 21, 2011. Source. Source.
(Also apparently had one in Juniors (date?) - see above source.)
Joey MacDonald:
November 5, 2011. Source.
(Was in AHL when incident occurred.)
James Reimer
October 22, 2011. Source.
Rick DiPietro
March 13, 2007. Source.
February 4, 2011. Source.
October 12, 2011. Source.
December 20, 2011. Source.
Josh Harding
(Date?) 2011. Source(?)
November 28, 2004. Source.
Jonas Hiller
January 30, 2011. Source.
(It was never officially announced as a concussion (it was later announced as vertigo after he had recurring symptoms), but if it waddles like a duck and quacks like a duck...)
Ondrej Pavelec
October 8, 2010. Source.
Mike Smith
January 4, 2007. Source.
February 3,2008. Source.
Dan Cloutier
October 29, 2005. Source.
Jocelyn Thibault:

Mike Richter:
(Date?) 1998. Source.
March 22, 2002. Source.
November 5, 2002. Source. Source.
December 12, 2002. Source.
April 5, 2002. Source. Source.
Mike Vernon:
December 20, 2000. Source.
Jamie Storr:
December 11, 1999. Source.
Jacques Plante:
March(?) 1958. Source.
How to help:
In the comments, please respond with the goalie's name, the date of the incident, and a source. If you can only provide one or two of the three, that's fine. Every bit helps.
Also, anywhere you see a (?), that means I need a clarification - such as a date or source.
Thanks in advance.
PS: If this should have been a Fanshot, I apologize. I looked for a posting guide but didn't find one.

No worries at all on whether fanshot or fanpost was more appropriate. No apology needed there.

Clarification on the date of the Steve Mason incident
It was November 21st in a pregame skate before the Jackets were set to take on the Flames
Matt Wagner at The Cannon has the story here.

I have no information to add...
But just wanted to say that is a TON of brain-rattled goalies. Good luck with your project – it sounds like quite an undertaking.

On DiPietro
I don’t believe there was one in March of 2011. He returned from the broken face and concussion suffered in the Brent Johnson fight on March 20th and made news by wearing an old-style helmet like Chris Osgood wore, but he didn’t suffer another concussion until October of 2011 as far as I can tell.
Here’s his SB Nation player profile
If you look down the right side under transactions/injuries/suspensions it shows his return (Missed 20 games (facial injury).)

I look a bit more as I get some time this weekend.
I’m glad that there’s so much interest for something that’s been ignored for too long in the sport. Hopefully the work you’re doing will help.

I have a question about this project
Is it simply going to be a database of which goalies have gotten their bell rung, or is there going to be further statistical analysis into whether there are any declines in performance post-concussion? I would be really interested in seeing the results of something like that.
Option #2 - although I haven't decided how I'll attack it just yet.
But for those not interested in the statistical analysis it could still serve as a database.

My wife is a statistician
and when I mentioned this to her, she said she would be very interested in running the statistical analyses on this if you want help.

If you haven't approached the Edmonton Oilers community at Copper and Blue
They might be an outstanding resource. Some of those fans have a knowledge of player history that stretches back a long ways, and they are always willing to share if asked. Good researchers, too. :)

Same thing goes for Arctic Ice Hockey.
They’re pretty good, especially from a statistical perspective.
