The Fourth Period :: New Jersey Devils :: Money troubles in Jersey
This isn't necessarily new news, but word is the Devils are facing some real financial troubles and may trade away Zach Parise for draft picks.
Discussion: How many picks would you give up for Parise? I would give up two 1st round picks and a 2nd, with one 1st being a conditional pick. If Parise re-signed, the pick would stay a 1st rounder. If he didn't re-sign with the Wings, it would become a 2nd rounder. I would also have to think about throwing in a prospect. If I'm Kenny Holland...I'm all in this trade deadline.
Don't forget to download the latest episode of WIIM Radio for trade talk, the historic home winning streak, and laughing at the Blues.
Let's Go Red Wings.

The best part of that article on Thomas
is where they used “serious” to describe a tweet from Lambert.

Hey Robocop
nice try over on SLGT – I saw your reply – at least they were civil to you this time.
If you read all the comments, there is a VERY LONG section of the comments dealing with the Peoria Rivermen…..just weird to me. Even after a loss to the Hawks (now there is a real rivalry!), we don’t spend any time at all dealing with Grand Rapids call ups, other than Jeff with the Brendan Smith stuff (hi Jeff).
stripe does a nice write up about GR every week or so. Totally worth reading, if you get the time.

Oh yeah
I read the Griffins write ups – every week. Love ’em, excellent.
Just found it hilarious that in a game wrap thread there would be so much talk and banter about Peoria and filling the seats there and a bunch of NHL wannabees (I have no idea whether any of ’em will amount to a hill of beans or not)…..
Oh yeah I kind of skipped that part of their thread. I thought it was funny how they were asking if the team would sacrifice the AHL playoffs for the NHL playoffs. Isn’t a Stanley Cup the only thing that matters in Hockey?

It's the difference in fan culture
One team is always looking forward to the playoffs, one is always looking forward to next season. Just ask Lions fans.

Love that Malik pointed out the line we put out there at the end of the game.

Its just a shame Abby’s face-offs aren’t more consistent, or he would have probably been out the instead of Helmer.
Brad Stuart should be our backup goalie.

haha well there was 1.5 seconds left
and the faceoff was in the Blues zone. I think it would have been safe to have Abby out there.

Whoops.
I was thinking we were still in the 15-17 second range, not that that would make a big difference either. Robocop’s probably got a good point. Regardless, I thought it was funny that Babcock did that.
Brad Stuart should be our backup goalie.

What they really needed
was Brendan Smith out there.

Helm was out there so that it wasn’t completely obvious that we put a scrapper line out there.
Dancing Datsyuk Decidedly Dazzles Dainty Defensemen
How bout how calm Helm was?
I’m suprised he just stood out there with that Blue hanging all over him. That actually helped by tying up a guy… granted it would have been nice to have Helm skating around.

Phil Kessel territory, if Parise re-signs.
You wanna tell me that to mah face?!

Not even close to Phil Kessel territory
The picks will be 24th overall or lower, not 2nd.
Pierre McGuire is a blithering dimwit.
I'd do it in heartbeast.
The Wings appear to have drafted well the last few years and have some pretty good prospects. They can afford to lose three high picks (which the players drafted wouldn’t see the ice in Detroit for another 5-6 seasons most likely). There is enough cap space to re-sign Parise and find a Lidstrom replacement if Nick does retire.
The Wings are on top of the league RIGHT NOW. Just imagine the possibilities with Parise added to the mix.

In one of the videos Malik posted
The one of the news casters said, “The Blues are missing a superstar like Pavel Datsyuk.”
First thought through my mind was, BUT they have David Backes!!
Then they went on to say how Dats is either #1 or #2 in the world right now with Malkin. All is right in the world again.

I'd like to know how winning 3-1 exposes your soft underbelly...
In Soviet Russia, win exposes you!
Apparently admitting that St. Louis is a playoff-caliber team is a revelation that shows weakness on our end. Flawless logic.
ummm
last night was their playoffs.
Graham’s point on their upcoming schedule means that they better figure out how to win on the road or else they’re gonna be looking up at the playoffs
but so should we for that matter. However, after this current stretch – we’ve got 18 of the last 28 at Home.
I think that sort of thing gets overblown at times.
Last year (I think it was last year?) the Red Wings had no idea how to win at home, but were road warriors. Weird things happen. Sure, St. Louis needs to learn how to win consistently on the road, but I don’t think they’re going to drop out of the playoff race because of their road schedule. I do, however, think they won’t be able to keep up this race for the top of the division. Not being able to score catches up with you at some point, especially on the road (as it did last night).
The travel schedule sets up nicely for the Wings, but with that comes the possibility that they get complacent and play some duds of games at home. If they keep up the urgency they displayed the last 40 minutes last night, nobody can catch them.
Because forcing the Red Wings to finally take you seriously means you've arrived
whether or not you got your asses handed to you and had to be reminded that you’re still a second-fiddle group of assclowns.

Nice. Let me add a relevant example...
We had to take Columbus seriously a few years back because they were the Wings’ first round opponent. They “arrived” that year too. Four relatively uncontested wins in a row later, and we all found out how much “arriving” really means absofreakinglutely nothing when the real competition starts in April.
And where’s Columbus now? Bottom of the heap.
They have no idea how they’ve “arrived” really still means nothing to us. But it’s cool if they still want to pretend it does. I find it amusing.

to be fair
the transition from golf carts to an actual team as a potential May matchup can be a bit of a culture shock

Remember, golf carts can be dangerous
just ask Eric Johnson (I think that was his name), got traded to the Avs – aka – how the Blues got Chris “the instigator” Stewart.
the choice of wording was no accident :)
