A Sign of Things to Come?: Tomas Jurco
While the Wings are atop the NHL once again come the end of January, us fans have been way too distracted by how amazing the present is to give much thought about the future. One reason being that Kenny Holland has proven year in and year out that he has the future of the Detroit Red Wings well under control. That doesn't mean we can't sneak a little ride in Doc Browns Dalorean, as the All Star break draws near, to take a glimpse at what the future may hold for us. Just please don't forget to bring some plutonium.
After the jump I will "see if these bastards can do 90" as we take a closer took at one of the more flashy prospects the Wings have -- Tomas Jurco.
Considering that Jurco is currently playing for the Saint John Sea Dogs, and that the coverage of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League is pretty much on par with the coverage of Valtteri Filppula's facial hair, its needless to say that I have had a tough time finding anything interesting other than his stats alone. That being said, I did manage to dig up a nice little video that we will get into later. Now the few stories about Tomas that i have read (im too lazy to actually look up the sources but i will if you want) have all mentioned how the Wings really wanted to see him "blow up offensively" before he moves up in the system to Grand Rapids. Here are the stats on Tomas Jurco. You be the judges.
In 36 games he has 23 goals, and 27 assists for 50 points while posting a plus/minus of 31
So far he sure has had a good start on the offensive explosion in my opinion.
He was injured for some time of late but finding a reliable source on how and for how long has proven pretty hard (see Filppula peach fuzz comment from before). I did, however, find out that his first game back he scored 2 goals and also had an assist which is a good sign of mental toughness coming back from an injury so well. And that leads us to the video that will have you proclaiming "GREAT SCOTT!"
It is of that very game on January 21st against the Halifax Mooseheads. So you don't get too bored feel free to skip ahead to about the 2:00 mark
Now who did that last goal remind you of?
You don't need a time machine to see that this kid has some major potential and we can only hope that this is a sign of things to come.

Was just going to say...
Well… he does wear #13..
Only thing that maybe a problem with him, which luckily can always be fixed, is size. Can take some pointers from Pavel and Marty St. Louis. Today’s new form of “hockey player specific” training, makes these guys thrive like never before. Someone give him Gary Roberts’ number.
