Tortorella calls Winter Classic reffing "disgusting" | ProHockeyTalk
The real story of the Winter Classic was the horrible reffing. The home team found itself down by one goal late and the refs did everything in their power shy of outright kicking Henrik Lundqvist in the nads to help Philly tie it. It was disgusting.

Discussion: The 2012 Winter Classic is in the books and word on the rink is that they next installment will be coming to the state of Michigan? Do you want the game at Comerica Park or Michigan Stadium? And who do you want to see as an opponent?
Let's Go Red Wings.

Toronto V. Detroit at Comerica
idk why toronto but i think its time to see a canadian team and out of the canadian teams they are our biggest rival… and although it would be better in ann arbor because there could be more fans, I think IIitch owns comerica so my money is on that.
At the Big House vs. anyone
Why the Big House? Simple…more people would get to see it live. Also, we’d break the outdoor attendance record so freaking fast it would make heads spin. I really don’t care who we face. Half the league thinks we’re their “rivals” anyway, and I can’t think of a good rivalry we have that NBC would want ratings from. Chicago? Done it. Maple Leafs? Canadian. San Jose? West Coast. Honestly, I think it’ll be Minnesota, which sucks. But I’ll take whatever they give me just to see the Winged Wheel play outdoors again.
I bleed Red. No, really.
not necessarily...
the outdoor record is currently held by Michigan/Michigan State from their outdoor game last season. They reported something crazy like 114,000 people…Guinness recognized the attendance at 104,000 and change. So it will need to be close to a sell out to break the record for sure.

But
Michigan Stadium is larger now than it was when they had that game. Michigan Stadium can fit 121,000 no problem.
Detroit - Toronto: Ann Arbor
It will be Comerica because of Ilitch’s pull, but I’d prefer it at the Big House just to set the record and see somebody in Canada agree to either build or expand a stadium to 120,000 capacity so they can re-break the record.

Epic vs. Intimate
Big House – EPIC
Comerica – Intimate (kind of).
Echo JJs comments – play against Toronto, set the record, make the Hawks and all the Canadians wish they had a stadium that large.
I think a game against Toronto would be exciting and awesome.
However I don’t expect a Canadian team to be in the Winter Classic…ever. I think a Detroit-Boston Winter Classic would be a fun game to watch. Realistically, the NHL would want two big draw teams in the game to maximize the $$$. Two original 6 teams, and if the Thanksgiving game was any indication, a game between these two teams would be exciting.
If the game is at Michigan Stadium...
it HAS to be Red Wings v Leafs or Red Wings v Hawks to come close to selling it out. I would vote for Red Wings v Leafs because the atmosphere would be absolutely crazy. Imagine the go leafs go vs lets go red wings chants for basically 3 hours. It would be really fun.
I think in the end that the Winter Classic will happen at Comerica because Ilitch wants total revenue control. The Puck Daddy article on this also thinks the Great Lakes Invitational (college hockey holiday tournament held at Joe Louis each season) could take place at the site. As a Michigan fan that really excites me. I love outdoor hockey, and the prospect of having both my hockey teams playing outdoor games that I will attend in a the span of a week is really, really exciting.
Rec'd for the horrible reffing at the Winter Classic statement.
Even to me, it was very blatant and not good for hockey. Let’s keep the Classic fun but real.

Comerica may have more charm and attractions nearby because of the city...
But i prefer Ann Arbor – having seen the Big Chill – the set up/ and viewing was absolutely well-done/gorgeous.
Team? – San Jose / Colorado/ Tampa Bay / Any Canadian Team
Other reason for AA > more tickets!!!-H2WC!!!!!!
H2H3-4
Likely – i’m thinking Det vs StL in Comerica
either way… I’m going to go :D

Well...
I don’t really have an opinion on venue, but as for opponents I’d like:
Chicago Done that.
Pittsburgh Been in two already.
Boston
Toronto
St. Louis
Rangers Played this year
Philadelphia Ditto
Washington
Colorado
for what it's worth,
I watched the WInter Classic and wtf was with the officiating? I found myself thinking, this is what they want to showcase? SERIOUSLY???!!! wow…as the game wore on, the Rangers chances of getting a powerplay opportunity seemed to shrink into oblivion. Flyers on the other hand…their chances just kept multiplying! ALL THE HYPE…and this is what they show? LOLOLOLOL!!! Folks, this is what happens when you leave it to beaver! Gary “The Beaver” Bettman can not, should not, be pleased with what transpired. I mean for gods sake, they even managed to call a penalty shot when there was NO BASIS for it to be called!!! if that is what determines a call for a penalty shot, then FOR SURE Nick Lidstrom got TOTALLY FUCKED the other night in chicago. I’m so glad the Rangers won! FUCK PHILADELPHIA! you losers! even with the referee’s help for two periods you cocksuckers still couldn’t win!!!
As to where next Winter Classic should be held…mostly depends if the world doesn’t end on 12/21/2012 as is the current prediction. If nothing happens, who should play who and where is mostly up for grabs. Would love to see the Wings play again outside. Who they would play and where is really irrelevant. Why not invite the Lightning up to Comerica Park? Three-fold strategy here. 1) get to see Red Wings play outside. 2) get to see Stevie Y again. 3) gives a non-northern team a chance in the Winter Classic. Tired of seeing shitsburgh, buffalo, philly, etc. ho-hum as it were. Pick a northern team to host it (where it’s actually cold) and invite either western division or southeastern teams to the party. Gives the entire league exposure and ensures of not having repeat offenders.
Hopefully the Wings come out in tonight’s game and just pedal to the metal and win going away. Looking at this month’s schedule, good thing there’s plenty of depth because we may wind up using some of it. Helm’s not ready to go just yet and Connor got sent back down “until further notice” so wait and see what unfolds for the Wings. Mursak is playing now in Grand Rapids so that will be a welcomed addition and Eaves is healing up and will be ready at some point. And after seeing Emmerton, Nyquist, and Andersson, I just get giddy with what the Wings have in their cupboards! I almost feel sorry for the rest of the league cuz when all these guys start playing Wings full time…should make for some interesting hockey watching! LGRW!!! LGRW!!! LGRW!!!
