Weekly Red Wings Roundup

Another week of Red Wings players in Europe as we've now officially lost NHL games. Let's check in.

Cliche: Just because there's no NHL hockey doesn't mean there's no hockey.

Fuuuuuuuuck I'm tired of there being no NHL hockey. The best players in the world all in one league is a really good idea.

Pavel Datsyuk

CSKA Moscow (KHL)

CSKA went 1-1 this week with a loss on Monday and an overtime victory Saturday. On Monday's game, Datsyuk got a goal and an assist to put his team up 2-0 before Ilya Kovalchuk got involved and ended up driving SKA St. Petersburg to a 4-2 victory with a hat trick. On Saturday, CSKA went down 4-1 in the first period to Nail Yakupov's Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk before storming back to tie it late and winning in overtime. Datsyuk earned an assist on CSKA's second goal, scored by 2001 Red Wings draft choice Igor Grigorenko.

Datsyuk now has 9 points in 7 games, a +6 rating and a 60.6% faceoff winning percentage.

Bonus: KHL Videos on both games with English commentary

CSKA 2 - SKA 4

CSKA 5 - Nefteblahblahblah 4 (OT)

Upcoming games: CSKA takes on Salavat Yulaev on Monday, AK Bars on Wednesday, and Lev Praha on Friday. All three teams are within two standings points of one another (CSKA and Lev are in the Western Conference while AK Bars and Salavat are Eastern Conference teams). As far as recognizable names, Salavat has Nikita Filatov and was the team that Igor Grigorenko played for just before being traded to CSKA while Lev will have Zdeno Chara patrolling their blue line.

Valtteri Filppula

Jokerit Helsinki (SM-Liiga)

Jokerit played three games this week, beating the Aces 3-1 on Wednesday before splitting a home-and-home against the Pelicans over Friday and Saturday. The news wasn't good for our Flip though. He failed to record a point in the two games he did play and he wasn't in Saturday's game, nor will he be in another game for the near-term as he's out "indefinitely" with an upper-body injury.

Here's video of Friday's 4-3 win. If the recap announcer makes reference to Val's injury, I'm certainly not aware, but you can see Val blow a coverage on the Pelicans' first goal.

Upcoming games: Jokerit plays only one game this week, on Friday versus TPS. Hopefully Val can use the time off to recover.

Jakub Kindl

HC Pardubice (Czech Extraliga)

Kindl's Czech league team had three games this week. First, they fell 3-2 to Vitkovice on Tuesday, before mounting a comeback victory on Thursday over Comet Brno and then taking another loss 3-2 to Sparta Prague earlier today. Kindl finally got on the scoreboard with an assist on a David Krejci goal on Tuesday. However, his total plus/minus rating has fallen to -8 now in 9 matches. Certainly not promising.

Upcoming Matches: Pardubice plays Swiss team SC Bern on Tuesday before playing two more games in their own league on Friday (against Zlin) and Sunday (vs. Trinec).

Drew Miller

Braehead Clan (EIHL)

Miller made his debut with his UK hockey league this week playing in two games and earning wins in both. First, they beat the Dundee Stars (Ed: they should be the Crocodiles) 5-2, before going on to a 6-3 victory over the Edinburgh Capitals on Saturday. Miller got his first goal in the third period of Saturday's game with a powerplay tally. In his two games, he has a goal, an assist, and an even rating.

You can see Miller's goal on a one-timer from the slot at about 4:30 of this video.

Upcoming games: Braehead plays Fife on Saturday.

Damien Brunner

EV Zug (Swiss League A)

Zug also played three times this week. To begin, they lost in overtime 3-2 to HC Davos, allowing goals to both Joe Thornton and Rick Nash. The next day, Zug got killed by Lugano 7-4, but Brunner scored his team's 2nd goal. To finish the week and the losing streak, they dropped a shootout loss to the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers. Brunner put up 2 goals and 2 assists in the loss to Jason Spezza's Swiss team. Brunner has taken sole possession of the scoring lead on his team and has tied for the league lead with 7 goals and 10 assists in his 7 games, where he's now averaging nearly 8 SOG per game.

Upcoming games: Zug plays on Friday and Saturday this week and expect Henrik Zetterberg in the lineup. Friday's game is against the SCL Tigers with Tyler Ennis, while Saturday's matchup will see Zug face off against Ambri-Piotta and Max Pacioretty

Jan Mursak

Olimpija Ljubljana (Eishockey Liga, Slovenia)

Mursak's squad won on Wednesday versus SAPA fehervar AV 19 by a score of 4-2 thanks to two goals from the right-shooting burner. They followed that up with a 6-3 loss to Salzburg on Sunday.

Upcoming games: Olimpija plays Friday against Telemach HDD and Sunday versus EV Vienna.

Cory Emmerton

SaiPA (SM-Liiga)

Emmerton didn't make it through the first period of his first game with SaiPa before injuring his hand in the team's 2-1 loss. Like Filppula, Emmerton will be sidelined "indefinitely." Unfortunately, Emmerton wasn't any good to his team in their 3-2 victory over Kalpa. [Update: according to Ted Kulfan's Twitter feed, Emmerton suffered a broken finger which will require surgery. This should keep him out for about two months]

Upcoming games: SaiPa plays Tuesday vs. the Aces and Friday vs. Tappara

Jonathan Ericsson

Vita Hästen (Swedish Division 1)

Ericsson has yet to join his team, but is expected to be in the lineup for Wednesday's game against Tranås AIF IF. He'll be with the club for a little while, but will probably join his brother Jimmie in Skellefteå AIK of the Elitserien if the lockout drags on.
