Rick Osentoski-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Detroit's Big Rig will play in Sweden's Division 1 for the time being, may move up to Elitserien if the lockout drags on.

Reports this morning out of Sweden, and directly from the Swedish Division 1 team HC Vita Hästen state that Red Wings' defenseman Jonathan Ericsson will be joining the team on the 17th for their game against Tranås AIF IF

Here is the link to the un-translated article.

Vita Hästen is the club Ericsson played at in 2002-03 when he was 18. Division 1 is the third-tier level of Swedish hockey, under both HockeyAllsvenskan and the highest level, Elitserien, with movement between the different levels possible for teams through relegation and qualification.

Expressen's Axel Pileby reports that Ericsson's move to Vita Hästen (White Horse) is a prelude to the big defenseman eventually joining his brother Jimmie in Skellefteå later in the season if the NHL lockout drags on. Skellefteå is currently 9 games into their 55-game schedule which runs until early March. Jimmie Ericsson, like Ilari Filppula, is actually the Red Wings player's older brother. Unlike with the Flying Flips, Jonathan is the much larger of the two.
