2 things...
First off, Sport Illustrated ran a photo piece that listed the top 15 goalies in a shootout as voted by 186 players. I was astounded, no outraged, no pissed, no...*insert whatever you want synonym for angry* that Jimmy Howard didn't even MAKE the list. He's only given up 2 goals on 18 shootout attempts. If you look here you'll see that he's 3rd in shootout wins and 5th in save percentage. RIDICULOUS!!!!!
Now, on a semi more reasonable thought, ESPN Rumors made mention of the thought that because of the Winter Classic, Nick Lidstrom might be more apt to stick around the extra year to play in front of 115k people. I think its an interesting idea that he would stick around just for that game. Do you think he's more likely to stick around because of the Winter Classic?

Since I heard we were getting the classic
I thought lids was coming back for it…. now if we win the cup he is all but gone, and rightfully so.
On Lids
I really think if he can etch his name on the cup one last time, we’ll lose him, and probably Holmstrom too (considering they are best friends, I think we would either keep both or lose both, not one and one, but it’s a possibility). I feel like they would like to cement their legacy as Red Wings, retire as champions (hopefully), and skate with their old teammates from way back in the day at the alumni game.
If we come up short, I see Lids coming back for one more year.
As for Howard. I think it’s because of his last name that people forget him. It’s pretty generic. (I know it’s a terrible argument considering Tim Thomas, but Thomas has his name on a cup.) His last name isn’t “Lundqvist” or “Quick” or “Khabibulin” or “Luongo” or “Lehtonen” It’s boring and generic and people forget about his outstanding play because of the other stars we have on our team.

If we learned anything from Lidstrom's NHL36
It’s that if Holmstrom retires, Lidstrom would retire based solely on the fact that his game day routine would be shot, not to mention Nicklas would have no way of getting to the Joe.
Fan of the Detroit Tigers, Lions and Red Wings.
Holmstrom and Lidstrom are definitely linked, but I doubt transportation to the Joe is the issue...
Holland would organize daily limo’s if it meant the difference between Lids and no Lids.
I think it's a solid point though, that if Homer retires we probably get one more year of Nick, tops.
He’s eaten lunch angle ridden with Homer to the Joe everyday for over a decade. Hard to think that suddenly changing wouldn’t have a psychological impact on a guy who’s used his routine so strictly as a way to stick in the game all these years.
Of course, his programmers could just wipe that memory from his CPU I guess, but would it change who he was? “Nature” vs Nurture I suppose.
Goalies are enforcers too.

If it was the difference between keeping Lids and not
Holland would pay Homer to keep Lidstrom’s daily routine the same, and could pay him a lot more than he could pay him to be on the ice.
ESPN sucks. Especially in their hockey coverage
And Lids, well, I really hope he does decide to play in the WC, even if he doesn’t sign (is a 1-game contract possible?) And I guess even if he doesn’t, he can be in the alumni game with Shanahan and Yzerman.

Sport Illustrated/Lidstrom
I think the player polls on SI are crap. They recently asked players who the hardest hitters in the game are and Alex Ovechkin made the list. I know he throws the body around, but I don’t think he hits that hard. Howard not making the list doesn’t surprise me. Wings goalies never get any credit unless your first name is Terry.
Now on to Lids. There are a few things I hope happen with “The Perfect Human” next season. First off, I hope he plays another season with the wings. That being said it sure would be nice if he accepts a pay cut to help the team. Lastly, I would like if he told his buddy Holmstrom to throw in the towel to allow some of the prospects move up.

We don't "Need"
Him too, however, if we realistically want Weber/Parise/Suter we will have to pay a fairly large price and everything helps. If he comes back at 4 million im happy but if the only way he returns is for 6 million, he will be back.

This may sound like blasphemy but
I hope he doesn’t come back. Ducks and covers. Because like DOC CARTER said, if we win the cup then there is no more perfect way to watch him leave than for him to ride into the sunset on Woodward.
