ESPN doesnt give a shit about you or your stupid record
This may not come as a shock to some people but the four letter network does not care too much for us hockey fans. There was a study of the amount of time ESPN spends on a topic they devoted a total of thirteen and a half minutes over eleven days last month talking about hockey. What do they care the most about? TIM TEBOW BLAHH BLAH BLAH JEREMY LIN BLAH BLAH LA LAKERS BLAH BLAH BLAH. For more proof I checked sportscenter after win 21 to see what they would they say. They did a brief 2 minute highlight barely mentioning the record and the anchors had a "lets get this over with so we can talk more about Jeremy Lin" feeling to it. I know this isnt exactly breaking news but it still pisses me off. The fact that they show European soccer but not the NHL shows that theyre not the all great sports network that they think they are.

It's how they deal with the NHL turning down the shitty TV deal they offered.
We lose out on ESPN coverage, have to deal with the NBC broadcasts, and get limited showings on TV(for those of us outside of the FSD area). It’s the fans that got screwed.

The problem
is that too many fans (in my less-than-humble opinion) still blame the NHL for turning down a shitty deal from ESPN and getting the cold shoulder for it.
I fully blame ESPN for the way their relationship with hockey has soured and personally severely limit how much of that channel I watch because it shows more of sports that I’m not interested in. I love that there’s a niche market for hockey and that there’s enough full-time coverage within reasonable costs for me to indulge. I pay $2 extra per month for NHL Network and it’s basically replaced Sportscenter as the background noise i have on while I’m doing other things.
ESPN can kiss my ass.

I agree. With NBCSports Network and the NHL network, plus all the Hawks Wings games I see about 20 – 25 Wings game a year in Chicago. Other than College Football Gameday and the Saturday night CFB games ESPN isn’t on in my house. The NHL networks night time coverage going game to game and showing extended highlights of all plays not just one goal is Sportscenter on NHL Crack. Very addicting.
Don’t get me started on Baseball when ESPN becomes the East coast SPorts Network. Until ESPN learns that the games and players are bigger than them I’m not watching.

TSN is far worse in my opinion
We all know hockey is a few notches below the big three on America’s favorite sports list, so how can anyone be surprised by this? I mean, ESPN doesn’t even cover that OTHER NY team that has the league’s best win percentage. That OTHER NY team that didn’t need an improbable seven-game win streak just to reach .500. Just the other day ESPN ran a (very short) story on some of the players on the trading block for the up and coming deadline and had Jason Blake listed as a defenseman. Brutal. TSN, however, prides itself on providing the best NHL hockey coverage on the continent. It’s Canadian after all. However, the top story the night Wings beat the record – ‘Firestarters’, Flames rout Leafs 5-1. It’s no wonder even most Canadians call it the Toronto Sports Network.

It's a Canadian network
Think about their audience; of course they’re going to give time to the Canadian teams, whether we like it or not. In this particular case, you’re talking about 2 Canadian teams fighting for a playoff spot.
I guess you have to ask yourself this: would you rather have a lot of hockey coverage but have your team moved down the priority list or very little coverage but your team gets a mention when they do something extremely noteworthy like set a record? Give me option A every time.

As a hockey fan, I too am not a fan of TSN
There’s a point where you get too much hockey coverage. As a huge fan of baseball, I have to wait 26 minutes before I get an off-hand, quick hits style baseball story, and then, when you think there will be more in the second half, they just reset and show all the same hockey highlights they showed earlier in the block.
It’s maddening.

I prefer theScore
Also based out of TO but I find it has a lot more information about the other sports and teams not based in Toronto (ie: Red Wings, Tigers, the entire NFL)
Consequences Schmonsequences.
Yeah, I was a massive fan of the Score before
then they started airing Poker non-stop and WWE more often.

This morning, re; the goal Gator knocked in
“It actually ends up going in off the goaltender! That’s Justin Abdelkader!”
…at least they pronounced it correctly.

ESPN hasn't given a care about hockey in eons
Hell the last few years ESPN had NHL they treated games like filler for everything else. We interrupt that awesome goal to show you one of Kobe’s slam dunk over some inferior team… Oh Tiger sinks a putt for birdie in a tournament he was leading… but we just showed that highlight half an hour ago…
Anyone who thinks ESPN is about sports is deluding themselves. Poker and the Spelling Bee?
ESPN has gotten too big for its britches and has forgotten what made them great.
