From Adrien Dater

On with this week’s list: 1. Detroit Red Wings (41-17-2) The NHL’s points leaders were slated to get goalie Jimmy Howard and forward Daniel Cleary back for Tuesday’s game against Chicago. If that didn’t bring out your inner Wings envy, try this on for size: according to people with knowledge of the team’s future plans, if these guys are on the open market July 1, Plan A this summer will be to sign Zach Parise as a free agent. Plan B is sign Ryan Suter. Maybe both plans will come to fruition. Be afraid of the Detroit Red Wings. Last week: 3-0-0

sounds like a great plan to me!!! get er done kenneth!

SHUMU OUT!

I hope the new arena is really nice.

I want wide concourses, preferably with skylights, and I’d love lots of glass on the outside with murals on the opposite wall of the concourse so people outside the building can see pictures of Red Wings hockey history and Detroit history in general through the windows. Buildings that let in light seem to always have more life than ones that don’t.

Better access for those with impaired mobility would be nice, too. Even if someone doesn’t have a wheelchair or a cane, they might still have a lot of trouble with stairs. One of my sisters has had surgery on one knee and eventually needs it on the other. She can walk fine, and be on her feet, but prefers not to take stairs if there is any other option. If someone has a respiratory issue it can make climbing stairs tricky, too, even if they look healthy.

It would be fun for the people who buy jerseys, if they could put in a place where a fan could order a customized jersey and have it done during the game so they could pick it up when they leave, or if they are traveling to the game pay for it there and have it shipped direct to their home address instead of carrying it around and needing to pack it themselves for the trip home.

I wish I had the talent for architectural renderings because I have other ideas too. :)

premature posting, argh

I read somewhere that Colorado knew that Yzerman was planning on flipping Quincey to a team in the West, but he didn’t know which one. I can see why they dealt with Tampa and there wasn’t a fit with Detroit, though. A young hothead who can score but also take boneheaded penalties isn’t exactly a strength in the Red Wings’ system, so they couldn’t have offered a Downie.

I’ve heard some grumbling about “a first round pick is an overpay” but I wish they’d remember that defensemen are always in really high demand at the deadline, Quincey is young and not UFA, and the pick is going to be late in the first round so it isn’t as though the Wings were going to find someone who would play on their roster in a year or two after being chosen. If you have decent depth in the minors you can spend a first-round pick for a player you have a very realistic chance of keeping for many years instead of choosing a player you likely won’t even see for another five years.

I like Quincey and am glad to see him back with Detroit.

Regarding the customized jerseys...

They have a shop like this at the RBC Center in Raleigh where the Carolina Hurricanes play. It’s pretty cool.

you buy a blank (or provide your own for a lesser fee, I guess), pick what you want on it, come back an hour or so later, and its done.

The Wings do so well drafting in the later rounds, I’d have been more upset if they gave up a 5th or 6th round pick for Quincey. First rounder doesn’t bother me that much.

It’s only too bad Quincey didn’t win a cup with Colorado. He could have gotten his number retired there.

BOOM! Bert gets 2 year extension

Looks like he wants to play with Datsyuk a bit longer. :) I must say, he IS a good value. Get’s a slight pay bump in a backloaded contract.

Nope.

Not a fan of Toddberculosis at all. Never have been, never will be. Completely irrational, but some players I adore no matter what uniform they wear, a few I despise no matter who they play for. There is no logic at all, but that’s how it is with me. #grrrrrr

please don't bite me

lol… That’s okay. I’ve been a Bert fan for quite some time. He’s helped us win a TON of games in the shootout alone. Datsyuk loves to play with him and he’s become a lot more defensively responsible. I’m not saying this to sway you… just stating my take. You can like or dislike whoever you want. I think a lot of the reason I like him has to do with how hated he is. I just don’t see it… I don’t get the outright hatred. I know about his past, but for the present… his teammates love the big lug. That’s enough for me I suppose. Always good to see you on Baroque. Wrote anything new lately?

I wonder

if Dats had anything to do with this. Like if Holland spoke with Dats about whether it would be important to him or not to have Bert around a little longer.

There’s no denying, Bert has great hands for a guy his size and as he’s gotten older he’s learned more about positioning his body to protect the puck better.

Not sure I like this. If Lidstrom is to return, we have to have Holmstrom, too. That means our only loss on the front line this offseason is Hudler. With the youngsters ready to make the jump, we may be short on on roster spots unless we trade some people away. Basically… this may have screwed up any grand free agency plans

by Apocalyptic0n3 on Feb 22, 2012 9:14 AM CST up reply actions

Not sure how I feel about this.

I like Bert, most of the time, but with Nyquist, Tatar, and Mursak all arguably ready to join the NHL ranks, hard to see signing Bert for two more years when we’d be better suited going after Parise, unless TickTock isn’t confident we have a strong shot at him.

Also, concerning Happy, wasn’t there an article early in the season talking about how all Happy wanted to do was redeem himself to the team and stick around? I wouldnt write off him along a cut to stick around. He chased the money once and wasn happy with it.

Regardless, in Ken we trust.
