Adding a depth forward.
Two players have been coming up recently, and I think they are intriguing. I want your take on them.
While this is obviously all speculation, would he fit in with the team? He is a veteran player who is more concerned about getting his name on the stanley cup one more time than padding his own stats. Do we even have room in the lineup for him? And what line would you like to see him be put on?
The second is A LOT less likely, and there were no rumored connections with the Wings, but Steve Ott from the Stars is rumored to be on the trading block.
Before you start to get all outraged at this, I live in Dallas, and my friends and I, when we go to Stars games, watch Ott go around the ice and fill a not always needed enforcer role. I personally am not the biggest fan, but let me speculate for a minute.
Ott grew up in Windsor, and his family was Wings fans and took regular trips to the Joe. With the way the Wings have been trending recently, they could use a tougher guy on their team (with ott, you have to kinda recognize a difference between tough and cheap.) By no means is he the dirtiest player in the league, but maybe the Wings could use a guy like him to get in some scraps and stand up for guys like Datsyuk when Joe Thornton decides to do a little extra after the whistle.
Anyways, I wanna hear how much of an idiot or genius I am for bringing these two up.
Stay Classy,
Joe

I'll pass on Ott
and Selanne is pretty much off the market with the Ducks recent push to the playoffs. Unless Anaheim loses every game they play before Monday, he most likely won’t be dealt.
Brendan Smith fan
Yeah, I feel like we also need to start bringing up some of our younger players.
But I don’t know who is ready to make the jump to the NHL.
The Flyers had a few injuries early in the season that saw guys like Giroux, Read, Couturier, and Schenn get increased playing time, and now they look like one of the more dangerous young teams in the NHL.
We could have some guys that would shine given the chance to play at the NHL level.

Nyquist of course
But Smith straight up sucked in the pre-season. I’ve never seen him play outside of that, so are there possibly some good examples of him actually being NHL ready? Circlejerking about how good he is doesn’t cut it for me.
The games that he actually played this season were pretty good examples.
Mike Babcock and Kenny Holland both saying he’s NHL-ready are pretty good examples of him being NHL-ready as well.

I was hoping for and Anaheim or Calgary collapse to put Selanne or Iginla on that top line RW. Not looking too likely now, but I liked the thought of:
Franzen-Datsyuk-Selanne/Iginla
Filppula-Zetterberg-Hudler/Cleary
Miller-Helm-Mursak
Emmerton/Holmstrom-Abdelkader-Bertuzzi
Obviously a couple of those either/or spots would probably go in the trade, but that still leaves Tatar, Nyquist, Conner, and (I hope) Eaves.
I don't think
you put enough no’s there…

Totally agree here.
I’ve heard that Morrow is on the trading block as well. I would take Morrow in a heartbeat. Not Ott. I know Ott is one of those players that people will say you hate him when he’s on the other team, but love him when he’s on yours… but Ott just really pisses me off. I have a hard time respecting players like him, who hit at all costs and has no problem with dirty hits and charging.
Brenden Morrow however works harder than anyone in the league. The Wings could really use a top forward like him who you know will NEVER coast. He’s a great leader as well. He’s exactly what the Wings need.
Although I would take Selanne as well.
I like the sound of that.
Morrow or Selanne, the two newest wings.
Just have to worry about salary.
Think Dallas would take: Hudler, and Draft pick for Morrow?
Salary info: Hudler 3 mil, last year of contract, Morrow 4.5 mil, one more year on contract.

Ott's a douche
If we’re going to lose Stuie, might as well get Selanne. Of course, that’s in a near-perfect world (perfect would be Stuart not leaving after this season).
