Site Discussion: Game Thread Pics & .Gifs

Stay connected for news and updates

I took this to Twitter today to get some feedback, but I wanted to ask the community about it. Put shortly, the amount of .gifs and pictures posted in gamethreads has just about reached critical mass. What started out as a bit of fun or a celebratory thing has become an complete replacement for discussion. At times, it feels that there's some kind of unofficial contest going on to see which person can post the most .gifs covering the widest range of subjects.

Honestly, for me, it makes the game threads harder to both follow and to enjoy.

However, I want to stress that WIIM remains a site for the community, not for orderly rule-based play to run under some strict authoritarian bullshit created to keep from annoying me. That's why I'm asking for your feedback. In the end, I like some of what's posted, just not to the sheer mass. I also know that I'm primarily responsible for getting the ball rolling on this whole thing with my past history of posting them myself.

What do you say? Should there be an official limit? an unofficial limit? a set of strict rules? Should the mods just kind of watch each thread and start throttling people back when it starts to get a bit out of hand?

Give me your honest answers. Is this a problem for you as well and what, if anything, would you like to have done about it? I want the most amount of people to get the most amount of enjoyment out of the discussion that the threads can bring.
