I'd resign him.
His pay is low, he’s a veteran player with a lot of experience. He has nice hands and is a big body that helps his linemates. For what he’s take up in salary, I’d keep him for sure.
I'd resign him also, but
just a one year deal, with the understanding that it is only due to the current CBA requirement about multi-year contracts signed after age 35. Might even give him a bit of a raise.

At this stage in his career, I don’t see him signing anything more than 1 yr contracts. I’d be ok with a little bit of a raise, not a lot; and I don’t think he would ask for a big raise. He’s happy, the team is happy, I’m happy. It all works out.

We may have an issue with roster spots, though. This is what we have next season:
Forwards Under Contract
1. Datsyuk
2. Zetterberg
3. Franzen
4. Filppula
5. Helm
6. Abdelkdaer
7. Eaves
8. Miller
9. Emmerton
10. Mursak
11. Tatar (I believe that he must play in the NHL next season or risk waivers)
12. Cleary
Free Agents
13. Holmstrom (likely to retire or be forced out like Drapes, Maltby, and Ozzy)
14. Bertuzzi
15. Hudler (who may be playing himself into another contract right now)
Youngsters Read to Make the Jump
16. Nyquist
17. Brunnstrom (he’ll be a free agent as well, and I don’t think we will resign him for just this reason)
That is 17 players fighting for 12 roster spots, plus 2 more additional spots if we carry 14 forwards like this season. Also keep in mind that we are all expecting to snaga Hemsky or Ruutu who we will have to consider as well, especially if we don’t give up a roster forward for them. I love Bert as much as the next guy, hell I was PISSED last night that Hudler scored the winner in the shootout and not Bert on his birthday, but we have to be realistic here: we have too many quality forwards and Bert may get the short end of the stick.
I fully expect
1. Holmstrom to retire while the gettins’ good.
2. Hudler to be traded (while his value is high(er))
3. Eaves or Emmerton traded (I still think Emmerton has been getting so much ice time to show his worth to other teams as trade bait… it only makes sense with how well Mursak has played in his brief appearances.)
4. Bert to be resigned.. He loves it in Detroit and the management loves his as far as I can tell, especially for his low price tag.. if you can get between 40-50 points for around 1-1.5 million, you take it all day.
