Clearly not the only one having some issues with JE based on others comments in this thread alone JJ. He is a master of the giveaway - am I wrong? He contributes maybe three points a month, if that? He has a team worst takeaways, but its
hard to ignore his giveaways on any given day.

that’s a great point JJ, and JE has been getting better stats wise over his five years with Wings I will give you, but its somewhat difficult to overlook what seems like a high number of giveaways, even after five years with the team. I know its minor but judging from some of the other comments – I’m not the only one questioning JE on the board. Just saying..
I’ve had similar conversations with a lot of people about how they judge Ericsson for mistakes but seem to have trouble giving him credit for the things he actually has done well.
Sorry if it came out that you were the lucky one who had put up the comment to which I responded, but you were the only one who went the farthest in what you said. You did it in a game where he had been playing extremely well. I didn’t defend him against the people who had a problem with the play because I ALSO had a problem with that turnover. I responded to the only comment that called him a waste of a spot on the bench.
Hyperbole has a cost around here.

Move buckets up to play with Pav/Bert. Yeah he scored, but he looked really lazy for stretches of the game and had some poor turnovers

It’s not gonna happen. Also, Franzen is a typical goal scorer.. he loafs, but I’ve not seen players that go all out that have a tendency to score goals. Hell, if we could cut his hands off and sew them on Helm, I’d be all for it. The reality is that we’re lucky that Franzen isn’t on IR or hurt like years past. He scored a goal tonight by being in the right place… that’s what he does. He scores and goes quiet. Franzen will never score 40 goals and is streaky… that’s what he is. We need to accept him for what he is instead of just bitching about what we want him to be.

is not an excuse for being lazy. I don’t care if he goes a while without scoring as long as he puts forth a solid effort.

All I want to see is him giving 100% effort even if he doesn’t score or have any points at the end of the night. There’s room on a 1st line for guys who aren’t 40 goal scorers, but there isn’t room for guys who take shifts off

and one of them is accepting… he is what he is. we see loafing, but we don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes. who knows? i’m just glad he’s not on IR and IS still out there drawing guys to him. When he’s went cold, guess who has heated up?… Bertuzzi. It’s just what happens. Do you give 100% at your job all the time? I’m sure there are times someone would look at you and claim you’re loafing as well. He’s not 3rd line bad and he’s not going to the Leino Lounge. Let’s get out of imaginary land and just accept the Mule for what he is… frustrating but someone who can get the job done when we least expect it.

just trying to get people to face facts… he’s being paid for what he is. we aren’t paying him 7-8 million per year to score 50 goals and him only score 20. we’re paying him 4.5 or something like that and he’s contributing on a balanced team the way the system is design to work. Am I taking crazy pills?

It's not a matter of going cold or points
or anything like that. It’s about EFFORT. It’s about the fundamentals of the game that EVERY player that plays for the Wings should embrace. I could give a rat’s ass how many goals he scores (to a point, obviously). I want to know that at the end of the day he did everything he could to help his team win the game, which I can’t say right now. He’s on the first line of one of the most successful franchises in recent sports history. Do you know how many players would kill for that opportunity?

but i’m not trying to say he isn’t lazy at times or anything like that. There were times where Pavel wasn’t giving his best effort tonight. I think we just need to accept players for what they are and leave room to be surprised in a good way. Who the heck knows what Franzen was doing or thinking. Everyone makes bad passes… it just so happens that several this season have led to game winning goals by opposing teams when it comes to Franzen. Or… goals that put the game away.

But would you take Ruutu or Hemsky straight up for Franzen? And of course no one gives 100% or plays their best all the time, but when you’re expected to be a 1st line guy, you need to give 1st line effort. And of course he isn’t a third line player – all I was suggesting was demote him for one game and hopefully it serves as a wake-up call.
that was my thought as well.
Except I have no problem trading him for Ruutu if need be. But as always in Ken we trust.

off the top of my head, i’m inclined to think he’s injured more often than Franzen is, but someone can double check me on that.
Holland should be asking for Skinner if he’s going to get Ruutu in a deal that involves Franzen. or maybe Larose. but either way, Ruutu isn’t even close to compiling the kind of career resume that Franzen has already compiled.

He made absolutely no effort on the empty netter which was caused by his own bad pass. I agree josh and accept him being as he is. Plus he’s a beast in the playoffs. I though have no problem trading him for someone will put forth more effort and heart.

If you want effort and heart
put Miller up there and let him do his thing. He’ll score a goal or two up there. But, we both know that Franzen has more talent. Whether he’s motivated or not is always going to be up for debate.

There’s not much difference between the two to be honest. Flips problem is always a lack of shoot. He’s more a playmaker so it seems. Then again, we got a whole freaking team of them so.. yeah.
