Red Wings vs Coyotes Recap 2.6.2012 | February
Your game recap from the gang at Nightmare on Helm Street.

Red Wings falter to end trip, but in excellent shape with toughest part of schedule done | MLive.com
Kronwall says the shorthanded goal cost the team the game. I can't really argue with that. But I also think sucking dick on the power play cost them the game and letting the worst power play (statistically) in the league score with the man advantage helped lose the game too. Special teams fail.

Drew Miller, Darren Helm, Danny Cleary provide scoring depth, solid defense on Red Wings' 3rd line | Detroit Free Press | freep.com
If there is any consolation, the 3rd line has been excellent. Now Kenny should go get someone to add to the 4th line and the depth on this team will be even better.

I’ll be happy to see them at the Joe. Hopefully things work themselves out. Boston had a crap PP too last year, but this is just getting silly. My tiredness is tired…. Let’s go out and get a W at home.

Nick looks terrifying in that picture.

Pretty sure he’s trying to set the camera man on fire with his mind.

I'm starting to feel like we are going to trade Drew Miller

He is producing like a mad man for his 3rd/4th line status, and we have to trade 2 forwards because of Eaves coming back eventually. I don’t see how we can trade Eaves, as he has no trade value with his injury. If we’re getting a top 6 guy, I’ll assume Bert gets moved to the 3rd line, taking Miller’s spot, and if we’re not getting a top 6 guy where is a bottom 6 guy going to go? We have too many bottom 6 forwards.

Miller + Mule + maybe something else (Cemmer or a pick maybe) for Rick Nash!

Or, of course, David Backes.

Oh man just think if we had a forward like David Backes on our team! He would make Pavel Datsyuk WAY better. (Obligatory Backes Sarcasm)

I would be ok with moving Miller and Mule for Nash. I’m already worried about Emmerton getting getting taken on waivers (J.J. mentioned that somewhere). I think that could be a pretty good deal for us. OR instead of Emmerton our 1st round pick for Nash + a 2nd or 3rd.

It’s going to be tough to get the Captain, especially with them wanted to dump the Jeff Carter dumpster somewhere…

Backes would also be our best goaltender on the ice at any time, too.

And Nick Lidstrom could finally learn how to play defense from someone with real defensive talent.

DAVID BACKES IS THE BEST TWO-WAY GOAL TENDER IN THE ENTIRE WHOLE WORLD.

It's petty as hell

But the little evil voice in me LOVES that SLGT is aware of this joke. And hates it.

Those guys need to take a pill, they are wound way too tight. But then again…we have TPH, so suck it! Nyah nyah!

Technically they only have to get rid of one player to bring Eaves back.

If the Wings bring in roster player via trade and only give up picks or prospects, they’d have to lose two players on the roster if they wanted to bring back Eaves as well.

I personally think Eaves isn’t coming back for awhile. He’s going to either miss the rest of the season with a concussion or stay on IR until the rosters expand before the playoffs. One way or another — whether it’s via trade or placed on waivers — I think Emmerton’s days are numbered. Mursak is more valuable to the team and has a higher upside. If you’re going to risk losing a player on waivers, I’d rather it be Emmerton than Mursak.

It would workout best roster wise if Eaves didn’t comeback till the playoffs. They have been pretty vague about that injury.

We should definitely keep the Sak. He didn’t enter into the we could lose this guy equation…

I'm bored

Would you rather see a top 6 forward or a bottom 6 forward at the deadline?

Now, the obvious answer is top 6, but let’s say the minimum to get a guy like Hemsky or Ruutu is a 1st round pick and Tatar. Do you do it or trade Emmerton and a mid/late pick for a guy like Gaustad?

by JeffHancock41 on Feb 7, 2012 12:48 PM CST reply actions

How high quality a Top six are we talking?

I’d be willing to give up Tatar, a first and Emmerton if it meant a big, elite scorer.

Based on the asking prices being reported

it would be Tatar/1st for a Hemsky or Ruutu like player.

I like Ruutu, a lot.

Hes a huge fan favorite around here, works hard, etc. People I know who are Canes fans do NOT want him gone.

Locally, there is talk that the Canes don’t want to move him, and that he’d prefer to stay in Carolina, given the choice. Whether or not one or both of those is simply being diplomatic to the fans or not, I don’t know.

Frankly, I don’t want Hemsky, I just don’t think he’s the missing piece, so I wouldn’t want to give up the future for him.

Goalies are enforcers too.
