Alright, first off here's the link I got all this from: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/raffi-torres-defends-marian-hossa-hit-hockey-play-055621976.html
And here's Raffi Torres defending his blatant headshot: "First off, I hope he's alright. As far as the hit goes, I just felt like it was a hockey play, just trying to finish my hit out there. The last thing I'll say is I hope he's alright."
Now obviously the fact that he thinks leaving both feet to elbow a guy in the face at full speed is a routine hockey play means that he's a complete fucking moron. But that's nothing new.
What I really wanna talk about is the NHL's response: "According to officials, a penalty was not called on Torres because no referees saw the play"
Alright, now I want you to do me a favor. Watch this video of the hit:
and tell me who that strange man in a zebra uniform who was standing right behind them when the hit occurred and even put his arms up in reaction is. Because apparently no officials saw it.
When asshats like Torres and James Neal can pull this shit and than not even get penalized during the game for it, it means the NHL is losing what little control it has over its players. This postseason has been a goddamn mess. Pretty much every single series has had at least one player visiting with Sheriff Shanaban and we're not even halfway through the first round yet. The league can talk about "eliminating" dirty plays until it's blue in the face but unless it starts cracking down hard, it can only get worse from here on out. And anything less than suspending Torres for the rest of the postseason only proves my point.
UPDATE: Torres has been suspended "indefinitely" pending an in-person hearing with the NHL set to occur this Friday. This means that he will for sure miss Game 4 of the Yotes-Hawks series and if the league has any idea what it's doing, much more than that. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/raffi-torres-suspended-indefinitely-nhl-playoff-violence-scaring-173612169.html
