WIIM (Now) Official Rosterbation Thread, brought to you by CapGeek (not really).

[Ed note: this is now the Official WIIM Rosterbation thread. It's still not brought to you by Capgeek, but if you've got one of those fun rosters you want to discuss, here's the place to do it.]

With the Red Wings' offseason upon us, we the fans delightfully undertake the role of armchair GM and begin building (what we fantasize as) next season's juggernaut Red Wings team. Certainly, the list of available free agents and trade targets make for a dizzying array of possible looks for next season.

Frankly, this is one of my more favoured times of year, when reality looks a little too much like the front-office mode of a sports video game. Upon whom do we bestow the right and privilege of wearing the beloved Winged Wheel? Which ungrateful, lazy, miniature beast of burden do we send packing? Does there exist one grizzled, savvy old veteran that has one last campaign in the tank?

Let's see them. What do the Red Wings look like in your mind's eye heading into the 2012-2013 season? Come with me past the jump (wait, a jump in a fanpost? Whatever.) to see what you fine folks at WIIM are coming up with.

I've taken the liberty of harvesting the last few days' worth of lineup suggestions from various threads. I'll start with mine:

This roster assumes Nick and Homer retire, Stuart and Hudler walk, and Quincey takes a hike. Obviously that buyout of Cleary hurts to look at, but I seriously doubt one of Nick's spare cyborg knees will gel with Cleary, and I'm not sure he's going to be the same guy anymore.

Here's another roster, courtesy of ym13. Like mine, he's bringing in Suter and Parise, but assumes Nick comes back at a pretty deep discount.

Another forward corps, sans money numbers, from kylegroombridge:

Parise-Datsyuk-Nyquist
Semin-Zetterberg-Filppula
Cleary-Helm-Bertuzzi
Miller-Abby-Eaves

Clearly the biggest swap here is Franzen out, Semin in.

Here's one possible look from Brian Sleeman. These lines assume Lids, Homer, Huds, and Stuart all leave, but we keep Quincey and pick up our two big offseason targets.

Parise – Datsyuk – Franzen
Filppula – Zetterberg – Nyquist
Bertuzzi – Helm – Abdelkader
Miller – Cleary – Eaves

Extras: Emmerton – Mursak

Kronwall – Suter
Ericsson – White
Quincey – Smith

Extras: Kindle – Janik

Howard
MacDonald

Finally, here's one (near the end of the "Waiting In Line" comments) from styks:

The awesome part of this original post was the breakdown of the actual contracts to get Parise's and Suter's cap hits where they are here. I'm not that sophisticated. styks also came up with a roster featuring a Marleau-for-Franzen deal.

FORWARDS
Patrick Marleau ($6.900m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Gustav Nyquist ($0.875m)

This one got beat up a bit by LAWing, who responded with this roster:

FORWARDS
Zach Parise ($6.000m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Johan Franzen ($3.955m)
Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Teemu Selanne ($4.000m)
Danny Cleary ($2.800m) / Darren Helm ($1.000m) / Patrick Eaves ($1.200m)
Drew Miller ($0.838m) / Justin Abdelkader ($0.866m) / Todd Bertuzzi ($2.075m)
Jan Mursak ($0.550m) / Cory Emmerton ($0.533m) /

Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) / Ryan Suter ($3.500m)
Brendan Smith ($0.875m) / Nicklas Lidstrom ($6.200m)
Ian White ($2.875m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($3.250m)
Kyle Quincey ($3.250m)
GOALTENDERS
Jimmy Howard ($2.250m)
Josh Harding ($0.750m)

As hilariously awesome as it would be to see Teemu Selanne running a twilight campaign in the Winged Wheel, it's pretty much assumed he'll stay with Anaheim or retire.

I apologize if I missed anyone's ideas, but it would be great to see this thread stick around for the offseason and serve as a running narrative/pulse of the fanbase type of thing. Cheers, and LGRW!
