According to Jim Nill, Smith is penciled in for full time duty next season, and they are looking to sign a top D man. Let's assume, if I may, that Lidstrom returns and Kenny Holland signs Ryan Suter (or even Wideman for that matter). That gives us 8 on D.
Kronwall, Suter
TPH, Smith
Quincey, Erricsson
White, Kindl
Smith is our main "depth" in GR. Exelby and Janik are not the future, nor is anyone else really ready for a call up.
So, what does Kenny do? Keep Smith down in GR for Depth, waive Kindl who is showing promise, trade Quincey who cost a 1st round pick? My fear is that we open our future up to problems when TPH calls it a career. If we give up anyone so Smith can play, it costs us greatly if the inevitable comes next year.
Then there is the idea of a rotation while carrying 8 guys, but then who do we lose up front if in fact we get Parise?
What are your thoughts????
