Paterson went 18-18-3 last season for the Saginaw Spirit. He posted a 3.42 GAA with a .904 SV%. Paterson grew up a Red Wings fan and looked up to Chris Osgood. He's going to get to spend a lot of time with Ozzie in the future.

Paterson was ranked third among North American goaltenders by Central Scouting. Was at his best later in the season, particularly in the OHL playoffs. Has good size and covers the net down low, and more importantly, gives the Red Wings another good young goaltending prospect to complement Petr Mrazek.
