Someone explain to me what's the point in trading for the rights of a player who's about to become an UFA? I understand it from the team who's on the cusp of losing said player without getting anything in return, but what about the acquiring club? If Pittsburgh acquired Vokoun and then he elected to not sign (not sure if he was about to become UFA or not) then wouldn't Pitt have burnt a 7th rounder for nought?
