The Detroit Red Wings have a massive amount of depth with the signs of Mikael Sameulsson, Jordan Tootoo, Damien Burnner. There is not a whole lot of room up front for another forward or two. Patrick Eaves will be back after missing the majority of last season do to a broken jaw and concussion symptoms. Justin Abdelkader still needs to resign, Kyle Quincey my or may not be back do to salary arbitration. The Red Wings Roster is full minus one key forward like Shane Doan or Alexander Semin up front. Only one of them will fit into the up front roster puzzle. Doan would be a great fit on the playing with Bertuzzi and Cleary a solid third line. Semin would a great fixture with Filppula and Datsyuk, an amazing amount of skill for a top 1 or 2 lines. Zetterberg could center Samuelsson and Franzen another top 1 or 2 line. Hell put Helm between Semin and Filppula break out speed with skill to finish or Doan between Bertuzzi and Franzen big body shut down with a score touch. No matter whom the Wings Brass signs the line combinations are endless up front. On the Blue Line issues are a bit more serious, who will fill the gap with no Lidstrom and Stuart. Kieth Yandle is the first name that pops into my head the kid averaged .54 points a game over the past four seasons. I don’t know what the wings would have to give to get Yandle but it could be worth it for consistency like that. It is possible that consistency could drop off with a move but I don’t think so. Numbers like this are what it’s all about being a top D man. Matt Gilroy and Carlo Colaicovo are my other to picks. Consistency wise they are not even close to Yandle. The up side is they are both free agents and they aren’t giving anyone up. Brendan Smith could be the a Keith Yandle type player for the Wings, he has a big shot, skates very well, and has good speed and quickness. The blue line for the Wings is going to be younger then ever this year as well. They may just have to patch the hole with a Gilroy or Colaiacovo rather then filling it in with Yandle. How ever this offseason end with signing for the Detroit Red Wings they take a good hard look at Doan, Semin and Yandle. Any 2 of the 3 will be game changers for the Red Wings in the 2012-2013 season. Not only is there limited roster space for the forwards but slim pickings for blue line help. The Detroit Red Wings Brass will have to choose who best compliments the players they all ready have. I know it sounds simple but as a fan I don’t want them to try to force something that isn’t there. You hear it more and more very year from coaches and GM’s key depth players are what win championships. The Wings are sitting deeper than most teams right now. I gave you my thoughts on how to improve now I’d like to leave the Detroit Red Wings faithful with these thoughts. Who best compliments the Wings team as is? What is missing the most Defense or Scoring? Where do the Wings stand if they don’t sign anyone else? When should we look for the Wings to sign a Doan, Yandle or Semin? How do the Wings improve their depth?
