It has been a long time since he went into the hospital, 105 days to be exact. I was told this morning that he was given the clearance to leave the hospital because he was in good health. They slowly weened him off medications, which caused a few setbacks, but nothing Burr couldn't handle. If anyone has spent a long time in the hospital they would know what a relief this is not only for the family and friends, but for Shawn as well.
Shawn still has some battling to do before he is completely out of the woods, but this was the next big step after the Bone Marrow Transplants. One things Shawn told me that I will never forget is from before he was scouted or drafted into the NHL. He told me that people told him, "You would never make it to the NHL" and once he started getting scouted they told him, "You will never be drafted in the First Round". He has been beating the odds his entire life. This is just one more odd he has to beat and he is on his way to doing that. Looking forward to number 11 being back on the ice sometime in the future.
Remember if you want to join the Bone Marrow Registry you can visit www.marrow.org or The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to find other ways to help.
