Some great news out of Detroit this morning
One of our favorite players, Patrick Eaves, has been cleared to return to NHL action after a nearly 14-month recovery following a broken jaw and concussion symptoms suffered as the result of blocking a shot in a Red Wings vs. Predators game in November 2011. Ansar Khan at MLive reports:
Eaves will start the season on the 23-man roster, which must be finalized by 3 p.m. Friday.
Center Darren Helm will start the season on short-term injured reserve, opening up a roster spot and enabling the club to delay making a more difficult roster decision.
Khan continues with an indication that a fully-healthy crop of forwards pushes Cory Emmerton or Jan Mursak off the roster. No surprise there, as Eaves has proven himself a very versatile penalty-killing forward with a heavy wrister and the ability to play in the top six if need be.
