Canucks Blog: Nucks Misconduct

Detroit Red Wings Tickets

Let's jump into the good old WIIM time machine for a moment. We'll take you back to the Stanley Cup finals during summer of 2011. Everyone remembers the epic seven game series that saw the Canucks embarrass themselves up and down the ice. Whether it was illegal hits, tire pumping or finger biting, the Canucks became the heel Vince McMahon while the Boston Bruins became the face Stone Cold Steve Austin. The next season the Canucks fans decided to enjoy the hate and accept it. They decided to "Embrace the Hate."

Well guess what Vancouver? We've been embracing the hate since before you were ever relevant. Fans hated us way before they hated you. The Red Wings were deemed soft and too European long before you embraced it. Detroit fans had the reputation for whininess, conspiracy theories, undue sensitivity, rioting, insecurity and being humorless more than a decade ago. We're so hated that fans out there consider the Red Wings their "biggest rival" and most those franchise don't even come close the the top five most disliked teams in our minds.

Hey Vancouver, we know it's fun being hated for always winning games. We can relate. But do you want to know what is really the best type of hatred? Being hated for winning Stanley Cups all the time. You should try it one day.

  • The Red Wings are 85-54-18-5 (W-L-T-OTL) all-time against the Vancouver Canucks.
  • Both the Wings and Canucks are coming off shutout wins over the Predators.
  • The last time these two teams met was February 23, 2012. The Canucks won 4-3 in a shootout and ended the Wings' 23 game home winning streak. Helm, Quincey, and Abdelkader all scored for the Wings. This was also Quincey's first game back with Detroit after being reacquired. Bertuzzi also signed his two year extension with the team before this game.
  • The Red Wings had a 2-0 lead last night and didn't lose.
  • Detroit is 4-4-2 in their last 10 games. Vancouver is 7-1-2.

Prediction: Detroit wins 3-2. Datsyuk is your player of the game.
