The Red Wings have extended their winning streak to 2 games after beating the Edmonton Oilers 2-1.

YES!

After defeating the St. Louis Blues on Thursday, the Detroit Red Wings have extended their winning streak to two games after defeating the Edmonton Oilers 2-1.

The first period started off pretty stale by both sides. However, that would change as we headed in to the 2nd period. Pavel Datsyuk gave the Wings the 1-0 lead on a PP goal assisted by Brunner and Zetterberg. The Wings seemed to control the play but Justin Schultz would put an end to that after tying the game up 1-1 with 3 minutes left in the 2nd.

The 3rd period would be an exciting one with lots of chances from both teams including one that went in to the net as Nicklas Kronwall got his first goal of the season on a beautiful power play goal. The 2-1 goal was assisted by Datsyuk and Zetterberg who both finished the night with two points.

Here are some notes that I took from today's game:
  • Tatar is playing really good. He is making many good passes and taking shots on the net. Hopefully he won't be sent down.
  • Please more off days for Howard if today was any indicator, Jimmy played lights out all night.
  • The Wings missed lots of open net opportunities which could have put away the game earlier. One notable one was by Damien Brunner who was absolutely robbed of a goal by Khabibulin.
  • Speaking of Damien Brunner, the Swiss forward currently has 8 points in 11 games. Pretty good if you ask me.
  • It is clear that Mike Babcock has a lot of confidence in Brian Lashoff. He used Brian on a key 5-on-3 in the third period that the Wings managed to kill off.
  • The PK was fantastic tonight, letting in only one goal on eight opportunities for the Oilers.
  • Khabibulin continues to surprise everyone as the 40-year-old played fantastic throughout the game.
Overall, it was a very good game by the Wings. They didn't look tired as they did versus Columbus and Calgary, instead they looked alert and managed to pull through with a victory.

As I said above, we wouldn't have won this game if it wasn't for Jimmy Howard. He played lights out and a lot of credit should also go to Nikolai Khabibulin who undoubtedly kept the Oilers in the game.

Next up for the Wings is tomorrow against the Los Angeles Kings.
