Saw this on ESPN.com today:
Gaborik's future
The New York Rangers aren’t necessarily shopping winger Marian Gaborik, but he’s indeed available if it helps them achieve some of their targets on the trade market.
The Blueshirts covet a right-handed, top-four blueliner and would also like to add a couple of bottom-six, grinding type forwards.
If Gaborik can be flipped in any trade to get those assets, I believe the Rangers would move him.
Gaborik is a natural right winger and plays better when he’s there, but Rick Nash and Ryan Callahan are also both at their best on right wing.
Thing is, with one more year left on Gaborik’s deal next season at $7.5 million, I’m not sure how easy it would be to move his contract with the salary cap going down next season, although he still remains an electrifying player when he’s on his game.

Now, I'm not saying I'm for or against this or how it would work in the cap world; especially with guys like Brunner and Howard due for a raise and the unknown of Fil. But if Ian White isn't playing and we have a glut of bottom 6 guys that could use some clearing out; and if it fit in the cap would it be a bad idea for a legit sniper? He has next year left on his 7.5 mil deal then he would be an UFA.
