Detroit Red Wings Tickets

Oh man what a series so far. Two fairly convincing victories for the Ducks and two escapes from OT for the Red Wings. Ducks fans are more confident right now because they're supposed to be. They're telling themselves that when the Ducks play "their game", the Wings can't touch them. They'll use games 1 & 3 to convince themselves that the depth is better, the defense is better, and they're the #2 seed playing the #7 seed and it shows.

And under the surface, their legs are kicking a mile a minute thinking of how awful it would be to watch the team with the third-best record in the league drop two out of the next three games to the no-longer-mighty team on the other end of the matchup who has so far been the dirtier, more aggressive, and angrier team.

Will the Ducks be able to play "their game" tonight? It's an odd-numbered game in the series and if small 48-game sample sizes tell you, regression ain't but a four-letter word. Jonas Hiller has been great in this series, except for when he pussyfooted around on a loose puck that he could have beaten Gustav Nyquist to. He wasn't so confident on the play that guaranteed we'd be coming back to Detroit on Friday.

You're worried about Kindl and Lashoff and Smith and Quincey? You should see what they're saying about Allen, Souray, Sbisa, and Fowler. This series is going to be won by the team whose bottom four can stop sucking first.

  • The Red Wings are 16-13 (W-L) all-time against the Anaheim Ducks in the postseason.
  • Anaheim last played a Game 5 in 2011 against the Predators. In that one, the higher-seeded Ducks lost a 4-3 game in overtime to go down 3 games to 2 in a series which ended in the next game.
  • Last time these two teams met in a Game 5 was May 10, 2009. Jiri Hudler scored the game-winner in a 4-1 Detroit victory which gave the Wings a 3-2 series lead. Franzen and Helm also scored. Zetterberg had an empty-netter.
  • The Wings are 2-0 against the Ducks in the 2013 postseason when Bertuzzi plays.
  • Selanne Sucks.
Prediction: Nobody listens to radio hacks who wine about a sport they hardly cover.
