So we've added Daniel Cleary back into the the fold. Babcock now has to pick from 2,485,493 forwards to make up his lines for the season. So why don't we do it for him?
Let's start by eliminating players:
Tootoo - RWs Eaves & Samuelsson and LWs Cleary & Bertuzzi (though he often plays RW) are all better than him. I'm sure he knows it too. God bless him. He's fun to watch sometimes, but he's unlikely to stay.
Eaves - Eaves is hard to fathom. Is he better than Cleary? No. Is he worse than Cleary? No. Does he provide something significant? No. He's a decent player, nothing fancy. Plays bottom six extremely well. Isn't the best PK, isn't the worst PK. Easily replaceable.
Samuelsson - The logical replacement, but has a NTC. The only thing he has is the high and wide slapper. He's not a great skater, not a net front, and not even a great PP point-man. But that slapshot creates chances.
Emmerton - He's only replaceable if Helm is healthy or if Sheahan is ready.
Bertuzzi - Similar style as clear, just with much, much better hands. Gets in heads easily and deftly. If Bert goes to LTIR, this would be a good reason to have Cleary.
So who goes and who stays?
I think Bertuzzi goes to LTIR if he has even the smallest issue during training camp. Tootoo will be sent back to Nashville for a 5th, 6th, or 7th round pick. Emmerton and Eaves will be Calgary, Dallas, or Florida for a 3rd round pick and a midlevel prospect.
So my vote on the forward lines:
Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Abdelkader
Franzen - Weiss - Alfredsson
Cleary - Andersson - Samuelsson (3A)
Miller - Helm/Sheahan - Nyquist (3B)
Bertuzzi - Tatar
PP1 - Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Franzen, Alfredsson
PP2 - Weiss, Cleary, Nyquist, Samuelsson
PK 1 - Andersson, Miller
PK 2 - Datsyuk/Zetterberg/Helm/Sheahan - Cleary
**I listed the 3rd line as being A&B because I think they will get more even playing time rather than one getting 10 minutes and the other 5.**
