So, this might seem really early, but it is always interesting looking toward the future after watching Game One. Not after Pavel leaves, no, not even Zetterberg or Franzen. I'm talking about when Samuelsson leaves. This coming July. We will have 19 million in cap space, which is quite a bit, but I'd expect it to be around 12 by the time we actually get to July 1.
So, there are a lot of different things that we MUST do, some of these things include:
Try to Resign Legwand
Must Resign Sheahan, Tatar and Dekeyser and more RFAs.
Now, we also have some optional things we can do, and some choices we can make.
First: Monster or Mrazek? For this, I say call up Mrazek.
Second: Defenseman? Forward? Or Both? I say both if we find some who wants to come here (AKA Not Suter/Parise)
Third: Which players themselves do we go for? I'll get to this later.
Fourth: How much of our cap do we invest this year, and how much do we save? I'd recommend saving some.
Five: Do we want more youth, or more of a veteran presence? Personally, I'd go more Veteran.
Sixth (If youth): Do we sign youth (RFA's?) Young FAs, or promote/start guys from GR? Start youth we already have.
Seven (If Veterans): What kind of vet? Desperate for cup or already won a cup? No preference personally.
Eighth: What do we do with Mantha? Grand Rapids? Healthy Scratch? Starter? I'd say Grand Rapids for One.
Finally: What kind of Trade Opportunities present themselves? Do we take them?
So, now that those questions have been proposed, let's go back to question 3. Who do we go after?
My list I created of better known players looks something like this:
Legwand, Alfie, Setoguchi, Jagr, Iginla, B. Gionta, Callahan, Gaborik, D. Boyle. Niskanen, Orpik, and more.
I want to know what you think! If we can get any player(s) that are going to be free agents for under 20 Million in projected space before Tatar, Sheahan and Dekeyser are signed, who do we go for, or do we not sign anyone?
