Helene St. James: Quick playoffs exit exposed Detroit Red Wings' weaknesses, so now what? | Detroit Free Press | freep.com
This next offseason is going to be an interesting one to say the least. We have a decent amount of cap space to make any moves we want to make, and we have the compliance buyout that we may use if we so choose. For me, the most interesting part will be whether Holland decides to target any free agents or if he is fine promoting the young players and going from there. Either way, our GM has a big job on his hands.

Drew Sharp: Give Detroit Red Wings' Johan Franzen a chance to kick like mule again | Detroit Free Press | freep.com
I am fully against buying out Johan Franzen. For one, his production is still great for a player who earns his cap hit. And while it is important to plan for the future, 3-4 years is a long time in the future. Honestly, I would rather have another 3-4 years of Franzen and then we can deal with him and his contract. Remember, the problem with Franzen's contract is not his cap hit, its the term.
Finalists for Norris Trophy are announced | USA Today
Zdeno Chara, Duncan Keith, and Shea Weber were announced as the Norris Trophy finalists. I would expect Keith to win it. Partially because he is having a really good season, and partially because he is actually a really good player. Hey, at least this is setting up nicely for DeKeyser in 2015.

How George McPhee lost his job as Washington Capitals general manager - SBNation.com
Ultimately, the inability to win the Stanley Cup, or at least return to the finals hurt McPhee the most. How can you justify having players like Ovechkin, Backstrom, and Green and not perform better in the playoffs.
