I haven't seen it posted anywhere, so I thought I'd share a little piece on our very own piano mover:
Apparently Abby's been named Team USA's captain for the 2014 World Champs, which I think is pretty cool. Abby's no superstar, but he comes from a winning culture and all those things we take for granted because we love the best franchise in hockey and we're spoiled, but it goes to show that it does account for something. We count Abby as a (really beloved, but nonetheless) kinda spare part, put-him-anywhere-there's-a-hole kind of player, be it moving pianos on the top line next to Pavs and Hank or getting under the skin of the opposition on the 3rd and 4th line (there was a time when him, Helmer and Patty/Miller were called "the new grind line"), but yet there he is, captaining team USA in Belarus.
I don't care too much for the Worlds or team USA to be honest (granted having Tim Thomas in net has a lot to do with that, which is kinda offset by having DeKeyser and Abby over there, but Goose plays for the european version of the wings with blue uniforms), but it's cool to see Abby being given the C. He's never gonna get close to a letter in Hockeytown, but he's been developing into a big presence both for the team on the ice and in the locker room throughout the last years, so it's cool to see him get the recognition at least elsewhere.
