On April 26th, 2014 at 4:50 PM CST I received this text message from my "friend" "Anthony", a Blackhawks fan:
"You can still come watch the hawks continue to play in (sic) the cup with us". This was of course the very day that the Wings were eliminated from the 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs by the Boston Bruins. In fact this text was sent MOMENTS after the game was over if I remember correctly.
Now this text message may seem innocuous enough, (to a complete moron!) but trust me it is loaded with all the malice, bad intentions and hubris that one would expect the Philistine fan base of the Windy City. This is "Anthony's" way of needling me and rubbing it in my face that my favorite team has been eliminated, while the 2013 Stanley Cup Champions* were still in the playoffs.
So here we are, a month or so later, and lo and behold the Mighty Hawks have been eliminated by the LA Kings by an ugly game 7 overtime goal.
Was I tempted to send Anthony a nasty "nah nah your team lost and they suck" text message? Of course. The second the game ended it was my first impulse.
But , alas my friends, I have chosen the "HIGH ROAD" whilst riding on a "High Horse" or whatever else you want to call that proverbial place of moral and ethical superiority. In short. I didn't say anything to him.
I wasn't going to stoop to "their" level.
Blackhawks fans, as we all know, are mostly insufferable douche bags, always emitting a vile stench of braggadocio that they certainly have not earned. Hawks fans are the Patrick-Kane's-playoff-beard of hockey fans, that is to say, they are pretty much the worst of the worst of their kind. If Donald Sterling was a hockey fan, I'm pretty sure he would root for the Blackhawks. I imagine Boko Haram probably watches every Hawks game from a stolen satellite feed in Nigeria while they abduct young girls.
What do you guys think? Do you think we should rub it in their faces that the Hawks have been eliminated? Or do we Wings fans quietly contemplate the arrival of Mantha and Co. and the let the Hawks fans wallow in the own self pity?
