When the Wings retire a number, they release a book on that player's career, featuring photos, stories, accounts from other players, etc. The book's title is always the player's number. They released one for Lidstrom when his number was retired in March that was titled "Five" (Can't underline in these posts, dammit). I've seen ones released for Yzerman, Lidstrom, Lindsay, the whole gang. I would like to see one released for Larry Aurie; come on Mike, stop being a douche.
Anyway, I was looking though my copy of "Nine" (Signed by Mr. Hockey himself! My prized possession) and I noticed a neat-o watermark in the book that is across each two page spread. It's a watermark of the Winged Wheel! On every page! I asked my girlfriend, who also has a copy, to check hers, and it also has the watermark. We both thought it was really really cool. What I want to know from WiiM is if any of you have copies of the other retired number books, and if that watermark is in there as well. It's really nice to see that the Red Wings orgainization put some effort into honoring its all-time greats with a high-quality book; little things like this watermark really show that the organization is going the extra mile. I want to make sure the team is doing it for every Red Wing who received the team's ultimate honor.
So, if you own any of the books, please let me know if the watermark is there, and if you've noticed it before! Also, let us know what book you found it in. I was just blown away by the fact that it was there and I had never noticed it until now; I'd like to know if I was just in the dark the whole time and everyone knew about it.
PS. These books are excellent. Top-notch writing and amazing photos. Buy one of these books if you get the chance.
