Babcock on Sportsnet Radio

Bob McCown and Elliotte Friedman have Mike Babcock on to discuss his coaching philosophies, how this year has gone, and a few other topics. I love these kinds of interviews with him because he's both professional and blunt in his dealings. You don't have to like Babcock, but it's hard not to respect him.

Legwand's Spear - Extra Punishment Coming?

Click here for the motion. You'll notice the watermark on this gif as coming from @myregularface. You should follow her. She's great with this kind of stuff. So tell us what you think of the spear that got Legwand ejected and very well could have cost the Wings two points last night. Mike Babcock didn't react positively to it in real-time, but he told the press later that after he saw video he thought the ref made the right call. What do you think? What, if any, supplemental discipline is coming Legwand's way?

Perspective on the Injuries

"@wingingitmotown Perspective: Yellow is new to Wings, Red is injured, orange is new+injured, white is not injured. - JoshHoward(LTIR)* (@JHowardDesign) March 19, 2014"

That certainly tells a story on this season doesn't it? Thanks to Josh for sharing this. You can follow him on Twitter @JhowardDesign

Bert Hurt, Tootoo Up: Saturday Updates

Helene St. James of the Freep posts an update on the Wings, including another injury and some telling stuff from Babcock:

"They're hurt, they're hurt," he said. "Helmer would have been in a week ago if it was up to me. That's why I'm not allowed to be involved in that. But getting ready for summer isn't a priority. We need guys back. So how can we get them back? Well a guy with a broken foot and broken rib, they're not coming back. The head one, you never know. We could use anybody available."

Jimmy's Got Popcorn...

Well, some of us may be frustrated with Jimmy Howard's on-ice play at this point in the season, but his Hollywood prospects are certainly on the rise as of late...

#RedWings Howard: A lot of us are sick & tired of talking abt it

Strong words from Howard.

Next Stop the Hall of Fame for No. 5

The trainer asked Lidstrom what number he would like and Lidstrom said, "I wore No. 9 in Sweden and it’d be great to be No. 9 again." The trainer said, "Kid, that just ain’t gonna happen." So he just took whatever number was given to him and that is how he became No. 5.

Great article on the father of Finnish goaltending

Very interesting article on Upi Ylönen, the father of Finnish(and modern), goaltending. It's written for the masses, but a great background on hockey in Finland.
