Recap: Wings 3, Blackhawks 5

The Wings suffered their third straight loss and their fourth consecutive loss to the Blackhawks last night in a 5-3 loss at home.

Detroit allowed three shorthanded goals, a franchise record. Despite controlling play for most of the game, the night ended with the Wings being booed by an announced sellout crowd, the first this season.

"I don't know how you explain it," coach Mike Babcock said. "I've never been involved in a game where there were three shorthanded goals, and there could have been four. Be honest, we carried the play. If you play like we did tonight, most every night it's going to turn your way. So a little adversity is not going to kill us; let's fight through it."

Once again, Dominik Hasek allowed four goals in a game (the fifth goal last night was an empty netter). Last night, he faced only 16 shots. Usually, Hasek plays really well in a game following a poor performance. Unfortunately, last night was not the cause.

"I don't know what to say about it," Hasek said. "Of course if you give up so many goals on such less amount of shots, of course you cannot say you played well. I definitely need to make more saves. I don't have any explanation -- I don't know what to say about it. It was same situation in St. Louis and today it was a similar situation -- not too many saves; however, they score four goals on 15 shots, whatever. Very disappointed."

Dating to Tuesday's loss at St. Louis, in which Hasek was pulled in the second period, Hasek has surrendered eight goals on his last 23 shots.

The Wings have a chance to right the ship later today against the Blue Jackets in Columbus.
