Wings 2, Oilers 1

The Detroit Red Wings (10-2-1) won their sixth straight game tonight in Edmonton by the score, 2-1. Valtteri Filppula scored the game winning goal with only 24.4 seconds left in a beauty of a goal similar to the one we saw by Jiri Hudler's GWG on Sunday evening. He got a nice feed from Pavel Datsyuk and scored top shelf on Oilers' goaltender Dwayne Roloson.

"I just tried to get as much speed as possible and I think they were in the middle of a change, too," Filppula said. "It was kind of a lucky shot. I wanted to go there but it hit the post. I’ll take those." ...

"When you get that close, you’ve got to shoot," Filppula said. "I’ve been trying to think about shooting more and in some parts I think I have. I think I’ve got more shots now, so that’s a good thing."

This was only Detroit's third win in Edmonton since January of 1999 (that's three wins in 16 home games). So tonight's win was impressive with just that statistic; not to mention that Detroit has the oldest average age roster and the Oilers are the youngest team.

Henrik Zetterberg kept his offensive firepower alive with a goal in the second period to get the Wings on the board first. He scored from the face-off circle on a nice cross-ice pass from Nicklas Lidstrom. Rafalski was also given the assist on that goal.

FSN Detroit did a brief interview with Wings head coach Mike Babcock and here's a few snippets:

"It was a tough win...I thought the effort was fine, but not the execution or even the legs...I'm real happy for him [Chris Osgood] and he's a big part of our organization."

Goaltender Chris Osgood has been doing a great job filling in for Dominik Hasek, who's currently out with an irritated hip. Ozzie is 6-0-0 this season and has won his last 18 games in regulation according to FSN. Not too shabby for a "backup" goaltender.

"It gives the team confidence when your backup goalie comes in and plays as well as Ozzie has," captain Nicklas Lidstrom said. "He’s been stellar for us."
