Wings 4, Oilers 2

The Wings earned their second victory of the regular season against the Edmonton Oilers on Monday evening in Detroit. Kris Draper (#33) sealed the win on an empty net goal with only 33 seconds left in the game.

The crowd of 16,913 (well short of the 20,066 capacity) was a pretty loud crowd and one could definitely hear the intensity pick up as the close game progressed.

"You're seeing it each night now, a one-goal game, overtime, games going into shootout," general manager Ken Holland said. "That's just the way it is. We've talked about the parity. There's not much separating a lot of these teams."

Mikael Samuelsson got the Wings on the board in the first period. Chris Chelios has been on a bit of an offensive streak since the beginning of preseason and added to that total with a little under six minutes remaining in the period.

"I got the rebound, two rebounds actually," Chelios said. "Sammy (Samuelsson) made a nice play to spring me up front and the puck bounced off to the side. By the third shot, Roloson was out of position and couldn't really recover."

Only 19 seconds after Chelios scored, Edmonton's Shawn Horcoff brought the Oilers to within one goal before intermission.

Just 27 seconds into the second, Tomas Holmstrom scored a power play goal, which was his third PPG goal this season (one in each game thus far).

Unfortunately, Dallas Drake did not fight last night to make it his third in three games.

The Wings take on another western Canadian team tomorrow night at the Joe against the Calgary Flames.
