Recap [Game #5]: Wing 1, Stars 2

Yesterday afternoon, the Wings lost to a much improved Dallas team. Detroit is now only up 3-2 in the best of seven series now. If they hope to eliminate the Stars in Game #6, they must do so on the road.

Here are some photos taken by my dad during yesterday's game, a 1-2 loss at the Joe.

Turco playing the puck.

Marty Turco played his best game at the Joe, and that resulted in his first ever win at the Detroit arena. He played the puck a lot, which created numerous scoring chances for the Stars. Turco even notched the only assist on Joel Lundqvist's game winning goal in the second period.

Morrow and Holmstrom crashing the net.

Despite this photo, Tomas Holmstrom did not have a great game. He earned two poor penalties, including one for roughing because he decided to jab at a Stars player who was sitting on the bench. Dumb! We also did not seem around the net as much as we normally do and Homer is effective in front of the net. Hopefully, we'll see a more disciplined Holmstrom on Monday evening who isn't afraid to screen Turco.

Zetterberg wins his face off.

The Wings won 71% of their face offs in Game #5. Kris Draper won 17 of his 19 face offs - impressive! Unfortunately, outshooting and outdrawing the opponents was not enough to warrant a victory on home ice. And just because the stats suggest it, I am not saying that the Wings deserved to win. They may have won face offs and taken more outside shots, but they did not dominate the game. They looked listless and even lifeless at times. What should have been a defining win for Detroit at home to earn a berth in the Stanley Cup Finals ended in a disappointing 2-1 loss for the hometown fans.
