The Detroit Red Wings open the regular season on Wednesday evening at home at 7pm. The game will be shown on Versus.
If you live in the metro Detroit area, you can still buy tickets to the game. I know the team has had a harder time selling tickets this year, but I'm surprised that the season opener hasn't sold out. All those in attendance will receive a free magnet schedule courtesy of Belle Tire.
Not only did Anaheim kick Detroit out of the playoffs this year, but two former Wings jumped ship for the defending Stanley Cup champs. Wings fans will not get to see former defenseman Mathieu Schneider as he is currently out with a broken ankle. However, we will see Todd Bertuzzi play and it'll be interesting hearing the crowd's reaction on this one.
Feel free to leave any comments or reactions about the game on this post- I'd love to hear what you guys have to say. I'm just so happy that hockey is starting back up!
Here's hoping that Detroit gets some sort of retribution on the Ducks for ending our postseason too early.
If you haven't seen the interview already, I suggest you go read it or at least skim it right now. The Detroit News did a great job holding a roundtable discussion with the five masterminds behind the Red Wings and it really is a great read. You get to hear insight from team owner Mike Ilitch, GM Ken Holland, Asst. GM Jim Nill, former coach and current advisor Scotty Bowman, and senior vice president Jimmy Devellano.
